Congratulations everyone!

I'm still waiting for any response from the Seattle consulate. Which did you apply thru? I'm freaking out over here😫

Sorry to hear that! Without mentioning the specific consulate, I can tell you it's not Seattle. It's one on the east coast
I hope you hear back soon!!

Yes that confirms what I've heard so far. Apparently the west coast might end up being the last to hear back, either by the end of this week or next.

Congrats again!

Congrats to everyone!!!!
I am planning to apply to the MEXT University recommendation scholarship this year. At least I will have a chance of being evalutated fairly even if the competition is higher. I doubt that they even read my research plan before the interview. And I doubt that those girls could have scored higher than me in the exam. And the first four persons who were called to the interview were selected, two of whom I personally know. And I read one of those girl's research plan and that I not what a research plan should be like... so yeah I am angry because I spent so much time preparing for it.

Smart idea! What university do you plan to apply to?

I was thinking of either Handai or Kyodai.
I am previous grantee of the Mext Japanese Studies Scholarship and I studied for one year at Doshisha University. But at Doshisha they don't have as many slots for the university recommendation, so that's why I am considering either Handai or Kyodai.

What unis did you select?

I will select ICU as a first choice, then Sophia and maybe Keio or Nagoya U. Not sure yet for the 3rd choice.

I think I'll also try the university recommendation route later this year but also possibly apply directly. Congrats to the rest of you guys!

I do policy research so GRIPS for sure, I just hope I have a chance to direct apply for funding:)
I don't know what that exactly stands for but good luck!! And never give up! Always keep trying! There will come one day when your efforts will be paid off.

I come from a country where the corruption is high. Even if you try your best to get a good job, for instance, that job goes most of the time to someone else who has a relation with some higher-up. And when they see a person that is more capable than them they criticize that person and some even try to setback that person. It's really depressing and many people give up on their dreams. But now that I got to spend a year in a country like Japan it made me want to go back. I felt so motivated and optimistic there. I didn't expect to have a setback like this you know. Because I prepared months in advance for this scholarship. But I won't give up. It made me feel more and more disappointed in my country though.

Congratulations on the good news! I hope everything goes smoothly for you all from here on out.

I am currently a MEXT researcher in Japan and will enter a Master's program here in Japan this October. I will do my best to watch this thread if anyone has any questions.

To those who didn't make it this year, please try again next year! Don't get discouraged. If you can get in touch with an advisor who is really interested in your work, University Recommendation could work for you.

Im really happy to hear that you guys are storming ahead despite the negative results. Dont give up guys, your positive attitude will definitely work in your favour. All the best!

How is it going with the letter of acceptance guys? are you hearing from the professors?

Hi !
I already got a provisory letter from a professor (I got it before sending in my application to the embassy). I'd like to apply to his university, it will be my first choice.
So, they're asking to provide your master's thesis for the phd candidates, and I asked them yesterday if I had to translate it since it's in French *cries through the amount of work*, they said I can just provide a summary in English along with the original. So once it's done I'll send everything.
And I move on to the next universities on my list.

And you?? What's up ?

Great ! Let me know when you have the letter. The university I want says it takes the jury 3 weeks to confirm upon receiving the documents. Sigh!!
Which university did you apply to ?

I applied to Kyoto, on a whim.

To be frank I don't have a university I'm dying to go, so i basically applied after i sent out the applications for the programmes i was interested in. But the professor i contacted at Kyoto was really interested in my research plan, he even gave me a small assignment to write so he approved the loa

Hey :)

How is it going? I've seen someone who got a first letter of Approval today.

I sent 2 applications so far for two different unis. I have another Skype interview tomorrow morning and if it goes well I'll send a 3rd application, after that I'll just wait.
