MEXT Scholarship (Research/Graduate students) 2018

is it compulsory for my research to link my home country to Japan? Am carrying out a computer science based research and as hard as I try, my country doesn't fit into it but the research is best suited to be carried out in japan. so is that enough or I need to do more work

How long are vacations usually? It is possible to work up to 8 hours a day during those periods
There are 2 vacations. Winter break and summer break (as far as i can tell they are a few weeks long)
Try looking at the academic calendar of universities you are interested in. You will get an idea about vacations and the general schedule.

I dont have any information about the part time thing, sorry.

I didnot do that. I just explained why its necessary to do that research in Japan (in interview)

But Do you think I can choose a japanese program ? It seems like six months in japanese courses will not be enough to attend university courses
You need to ask the university about this. Some of my friends have been accepted into Japanese programs with zero Japanese ability, but their fields are different (science) and their primary focus will be doing research (working in labs, etc).

I dont know what the situation is for MBA , no one was selected for MBA in my batch. I dont think a 6 months course will be enough for you to complete a MBA course taught in Japanese. Some universities make some arrangement for foreign students. So you need to sort this out when you apply to the universities.

Ask the embassy if any scholar/applicant was selected for MBA, you can contact him/her for help.

So, couple of questions I couldn't get the answer for from the embassy.
Can I answer all the essay questions in one essay or do I need to divide it into sections like in the form?
Second, my adviser told me to think of question they might ask in the interview, any suggestions?

By the way, I'm really thankful for the help. This application is "special".

Another question, I was wondering if anyone has an idea of how long it takes from the deadline date for document submission to the date of the written exams. I know it depends on one's country but there has to be like a range. Thank You

Last year's thread has posts where we have mentioned interview questions.

Around a month or so. I dont remember if there was an applicant from your country last year, but you can check last year's thread.

Is anyone applying to Titech for 2018? I had the chance to talk with some international students that received MEXT scholarship and im readying the necesary documents for the application.

Did anyone have trouble contacting advisors? Theres two professors in Titech i would like to work with but my first choice has not answered and its been nearly 3 weeks since the first e mail , that being said i should had noticed it was on golden week so e mail probably got among others.

Im applying under IGP A, applied chemistry.

This is probably a weird question but what exactly is the research proposal? I'm applying through the embassy in Atlanta, Georgia but the guidelines that I have and the site didn't say anything about one so I didn't know about it until recently.

Are specialized training colleges just for undergraduate, or also for graduate applicants?

Hello everyone!

I'm about to apply for the MEXT program for a master's of science degree in material engineering, focus on metallurgy.
Was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to review my "Field of Study and Study Program" paper and give feedback as this is the first time I ever write anything like this and it feels like I'm fumbling to write a good one.
All criticism is appreciated!

This is a link to my current version it, you can comment directly at the link or in this forum and I will read it. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi again, how long would you say the field of study should be at the maximum? It just keeps getting bigger for me and I think I need to tone it down.

Hello all! Been reading the five pages of discussion, thank you for all the advice. I have one tricky question:

I am applying for MEXT Embassy now, interviews would take place in July.

In my case, I have had 2 skype discussions/interviews with my prospect supervisor discussing my topic and the research in his team, have received acceptance letter from the university (for Oct 2017), and the university will send me the Certificate of Eligibility as soon as I send them all necessary details. My professor agreed to apply for MEXT and hope to receive it (even though it would be entering Oct 2018 instead), since I will also apply for an Oct2017 scholarship in case I don't get MEXT.

For MEXT Embassy, we are expected to contact university and obtain an acceptance letter after the results are out.

Now, how much of this should I mention in my application and/or in the interview?

1) I will definitely mention discussions with the supervisor and knowledge of the ongoing research. Is this a bad idea?
2) Should I mention anything about the acceptance letter? COE, etc?

Thank you so much!

I've read it so many times I've actually forgotten: it is possible to get the scholarship for a total of 3 years if one gets into a master, isn't it? So 1 year of language course + entrance exam and 2 years of actual master?

Hello. I have recently submitted my documents to my local embassy a week ago. The deadline is June 15th, but I would like to know how soon the embassy gets back with you. Is it usually after the deadline or a few weeks after you submit your documents. Thank you.

It depends on your local embassy, but I bet it wont be long at all after the deadline.
In Sweden this years deadline is 5 of June and the date for the next step of interview and test is 19 of June, 2 weeks.

Yes, it's possible.

In my country, it's approx. 1 month.

Hello Friends... I am new to this group. Thank you for sharing your valuable inputs. I am from India and have applied for MEXT 2018 for embassy recommendation. My main concern is the number of pages of my research proposal. It is structured and pretty much detailed. Would any one tell if this is going to back fire. I checked with Japanese embassy here, who said it is not of an issue, but still a concern for me. Did anyone one of you come across this situation? Thanks in advance for your feedback...

Hello guys,
So I applied for the Scholarship one day before the deadline on June 2nd (MBA). I went directly to the embassy in Chicago and submitted my paperwork alongside a friend who is also applying (PHD). Today June 7th he got an email notifying him that he was selected for an interview on June 15th . I have not gotten anything yet, do you guys think I still have a chance? Do they send all notifications at the same time? Do you guys know if they send rejection notifications too?
The wait is literally killing me :S

hey, facing the exact same problem. mine is due tomorrow. I've decided to limit it to three pages all together. including the plan. I've noticed most of the examples of the proposals that got accepted are roughly around 3 pages.
