Using iPhone 5 Model A1428 in Japan?

Is it possible to use an iPhone 5 model A1428 in Japan with one of the prepaid sim card networks? I emailed b-mobile and they said:

We have compatibility with iPhone 5 but only with SIM free iPhone5(model A1429)(iOS 6.0.1).
Otherwise we cannot guarantee you if it works or not. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

I contacted Softbank, and they said theirs will work, but their price is insane when compared to b-mobile.
Anyone have any luck?
