Hello!
I started reading かぐやひめ today and it went ok. There were however some parts that I was hoping you cold help me out with.
ある日 おじいさんが、山に 竹を きりにいくと、一本の 竹 の ねもとが、かがやくように ひかっています。
One day when the old man had gone to the mountain to cut bamboo, one bamboo's root was shining like shine(???).
The ように part here somehow refers in sort of a manner in which the the girl was glowing I guess. But I can't really make it fit.
おじいさんは、てのひらに のろぐらい 小さな 女の 子を、そっと だきかかえると、おそいで 家に かえ りました。
Here I can't find a meaning for のろぐらい. I guess ぐらい means about or approximately? But if so I can't find a meaning for のろ.
「おばあさんや みてごらん。竹の なかから うまれ てきた 子じゃ。」
"Obaasan, look. Its a child that was born from inside the bamboo."
The や after おばあさん what meaning does that particle have there? I have only seen it when listing nouns. Also is みてごらん correct? As a side note. How do you translate Obaasan? ^^ Old lady, look. Doesn't really work
Also, what does ending a meaning with じゃ mean?
「まあ かわいいこと! 子どもに めぐまれない わ たしたちに、神さまが さずけて くださったんだね。 」
"Oh, what a cute thing!" God has granted us, who was not blessed with child, [with a child].
The part I'm not sure about here is for which sentence kodomo refers to is it to めぐまれない and then it's inferred that it is child they have been granted with?
Thanks in advance!
