Actually,from what I gather, kangaroos are pests in a lot of areas. I think you are trying to find hypocrisy where there is none. If you watched the video you linked most of the people interviewed were against the culling of the kangaroos, and indeed the newscaster at the beginning said the initial cull was abandoned because there were a lot of protests. Even the guy at the end made a point of the hypocrisy of them protesting Japanese whaling and allowing the cull to happen, so it's not like the Australian people don't realize this or are for the culling.

I thought Kangarros are native specieis in Australia, but not Australian.
Plus both Kangroos and camels are key animals in zoo in Japan, and not defined as "pests".

And here is where the hypocrisy starts, Japan is not know for its kindness to animals. Dog fighting is illegal in most parts of the world but in Japan it is fine, on top of that they charge you an entry fee and make money off this.


And what about animal cruelty here in Japan, on top of that what about the in-human conditions that a lot of these breeders have due to space restrictions?

I think you are missing the point, Astroboy is trying to stereotype an entire country veiws by only going off a few stupid radicals. We all know the people who wrote on the van are a few beers short of a six pack, but Astroboy continues to try to stereotype to suit his own agenda.

Astroboy is guilty of stereotyping also, if he's condemning all of Australia. But there is a curious thing about all this Japan-bashing over whaling. It seems to be mainly coming from white people of Western European (i.e., Christian) background. In fact, the whole animal-rights movement, from the whale-worshippers to the wolf-huggers, has a Western Christian cultural bias.

I'm not saying the animal-worshippers have exactly borrowed Christian principles. The Bible says that animals and plants are put on the earth by God for man's use; and obviously the animal-lovers' new-age religion doesn't accept this precept. In many ways the animal lovers' beliefs are more in line with Hinduism or Buddhism in this respect.

The Christian cultural bias comes into play in the evangelical streak that pervades Western thought. Christianity and Islam are the world's two great evangelical religions. Other faiths do not have the same insistence that unbelievers must be converted at all costs, that one's own beliefs and morality must be imposed upon others. I think such an attitude seems particularly alien to Asians.

I think most Japanese aren't prepared for the evangelicism that pervades Western thought. Astroboy, like other Asians, probably cannot conceive of the depths of evangelical motivation, and may seize on racism as an explanation for behavior that is otherwise unfathomable to them.

Modern animal rights activists (again, mostly white people), just like the old Crusaders, Puritans, and other religious imperialists, are not content to live by their own beliefs. They insist that everyone else in the world must also convert and adopt their beliefs. This makes them guilty of cultural, but maybe not racial, bigotry.

Exactly, and some people believe that if done in moderation like anything it is ok. Whaling in Japan is as much a tradition as it is in the northern parts of the world, I understand the reasons to why they do it.

I think the radical animal rights activists need wake up to their insane and stupid methods. Some of them are just complete nutjobs who don't have a hope in hell of making it in the real world, lucky for us they are in the minority. We definately need to do something about them, but I don't have a problem with people wanting to keep a balance so as we can have a sustainable future as long as it is done with diplomacy. Unfortunately there seems to be no middle ground here, the nutjob activists want it all their way , even when Japan has reduced the amount of whales being taken each year.
