Of course you need to pass the JLPT, the school teaches in japanese, if you can't speak it things would be pretty tough.

Kai looks good to me too, so I'll be researching into it further. You said that you never attended a Japanese language college. Did you attend a more academically oriented institution? A Japanese language college will be great, but I do intend to enroll in a Japanese university once I have passed the JLPT. Are there any schools that offer academic prep or exam prep? I have, since beginning my research, only come across one college that does offer that kind of preparation: Kobe Toyo - but I am having difficulty gaining further information about it, and so am skeptical. ☝

I did one year at Nanzan University during my university years as an exchange student. Then later in life I did one year at IUC in Yokohama, which I also talk about on JapanNewbie.com. IUC is a more academic institution. Of course I have never been to any other language schools so I can't really compare, but from what I have heard IUC is very different. Most of the students at IUC are in the middle of a graduate program, or have already studied Japanese for more than a couple of years in a university setting.
By the way, I don't think you need to pass the JLPT to get into a Japanese university. I don't know of any schools that offer specific JLPT study stuff.
