Interesting statistic. Makes you wonder if crime really is going down, or if the police aren't doing their job :-O

Statistics like that still give kind of a biased impression, like i learned from past threads, even if Chinese, Koreans are responsible for that percentage of crimes.. it fails to mention the fact that they also comprise most of the foreign population. Thus, counting all humans as equal, naturally most of the crimes should come from their populace. Rate is a much better indicator if you ask me.

I'm Korean, but I get pretty much offended when someone categorize Koreans with the qinese when mentioning statistics of foreign crimes in Japan. Here is a statistic from JREF itself:

Contrary to the fair racial crime statistics open to public in the US, Japan only shows off the notorious profiling, coming foreigners and other foreigners, except upon a special request from a special lawmaker.

Adulado, I know your patriotism, but you should face the interesting fact that your country is the NO.1 country of over-stayers as well as good tourists here. Show the same patriotism like Taiwanese, lower crime rate, great economic influence, and many good tourists here in Japan.

I hope that statistic distinguishes which is an illegal over-stayed alien and legitimate tourist.

I'm not sure if you are directing that at me, or the article, but i merely am mentioning the two together because they comprise the majority of the foreign population in Japan. If there would happen to be mostly British and Chinese, i would have said the same thing.

Adulado> Where does the article mention Brazilians? Did you even go to the link? In any case my point was that many statistics are misleading and that Chinese and Korean (See article) crime is not as bad is some would lead you to believe.

I'm really not sure why you care so much either. You are an American, living in America correct? How does this effect your life? It just seems to me you have a problem with Koreans being mentioned in the same sentence as Chinese regardless of the context. My comments were in defense of people from those countries living in Japan, so calm down.
