I Saw The Sign!!

I will be posting Japanese "signs" I encounter in my daily life here in Japan. Please feel free to post your own.

First off, here's a couple of signs seen on the fence of a park near my office.

The only photos of signs I have are information panels at parks and museums, so that I can read them at home. But, here are signs I found at two different shrines, offering visitors tips on how to pray at Shinto shrines.

Those signs are great! I've always DRUNK the water straight from the ladle... Next time I visit a Shinto shrine, I'll know what to do!

When I was in Japan I took this picture inside the bathroom of an economic hotel in Minami Senju area (north of Tokyo)... how to use a washable toilet...

Here is picture I took in Japan 30 years ago and recently. Although the area used to be rural the sign is still up today on the fence of the Sagamihara Golf Course near Minami Rinkan station along the Odakyu line. As the rust indicates, it is an old sign. Says quite alot doesn't it?

OK, this is not a sign but a vending machine in my office. Some of you may recognize that grumpy-looking man in the ad from a certain Admin's avatar...

Our local botanical garden is a favorite hangout for me and my hubby. The huge greenhouse is a nice place to be especially during winter.
The sign warns visitors not to pick the bananas and eat them. I'm waiting for the papaya and breadfruit to drop on our laps!

If you look at the picture real closely, in the upper left hand side corner, hidden amongst the leaves, is the head of a Black Bear, hungry for some lycra!

errr.. I can imagine the meaning of 責任を負い ("sekinin wo oi")
I recall I saw that expression in a Manga's Japanese lesson:

それは君が責任を負うべき事だ!
"Sore wa kimi ga sekinin wo ou beki koto da!"
It was translated as: That's your funeral !

From today's morning paper...

Every morning, the morning paper comes loaded with flyers for Pachinko parlors, electronics stores and supermarkets. This one is the "Daily Specials" section of a flyer for a local supermarket. Do you see any bargains?

At the police station...

I had to go to the Ashikaga Police Station this afternoon. No, I was not in trouble. I just had to register a few cars for the company and had to obtain parking permits from the Man.

Anyway, on the counter at the information desk was this brochure about how to avoid being a victim of money transfer frauds. It is a big problem here in Japan these days and I've written about it in my blog a while ago (read it here).

I would have taken a photo of the big poster that was also on display on the wall but I was worried how I'd look snapping away inside a police station (you know, there were many...cops there) so I grabbed the brochure and scanned it once I got back to my office.

I drove by 鑁阿寺 (Bannaji Temple) this afternoon on my way back from the City Hall and saw this sign on the main gate.
