Did you see the opening ceremony?

I watched the openings ceremony, and although I found certain things boring and too long I did enjoy the beginning with the kind of drums, the part where they talked about the silk road and the way the olympic fire was set on fire, plus of course the fire works.

How about making threads with an opening post with more than 40 characters in it... instead of just "Did you see the openings ceremony?" you can maybe say what you liked about it yourself.

Seemed like Chinese propaganda to me, like "We invented paper, compass, etc", "China is a multi-ethnic nation (so don't meddle in our domestic issue)" although admittedly some parts were artistic and great. I guess the Olympics is a good vehicle for self-promotion.

I didn't watch the opening ceremony. I usually miss them, but somehow I always watch the closing ceremonies and find them much more moving and somehow more sentimental...those who achieved their dreams, those that tried and lost...I don't know it's just more real to me than the opening ceremonies.

Seems a bit unfair to me.

I notice every single night on the news, they have some segment about the negative aspects of China and the games.It seems like the news media is afraid the Olympics might make people think China is good so they beat them down every chance they get. I can't recall any previous Olympic coverage that was so negative in the past.

How about Moscow? Don't know about the media coverage, but many countries didn't participate at all. The Olympics is political. China knows that too.

I guess I liked it. Some portions seemed to drag on though. My favorite part was definitely the countdown in the beginning. There were so many drummers it was extremely mindboggling. The way they did the waves with the blocks was very impressive too. My dad told me he heard all the people operating them were female. Imagine my surprise when hundreds of men popped up!

I did enjoy how they made it very artistic. I loved what they did with the painting and how all the countries walked across it with different colors.

The amount of fireworks was ridiculous! I couldn't imagine trying to sleep through all that.

At least the news coverage during the Opening Ceremony seemed pretty positive.

It's just impossible to do better than chinese ceremonies. I saw the opening and the closing ceremonies and I've never seen anything so wonderful. If London want to beat China, they must work very hard...

All the children dressed in ethnic traditional clothes, which were supposed to showcase the country's ethnic diversity, were children of Han . There was no child of ethnic minority.
