Do people vacation in Iwo Jima?

窶堋ｱ窶堙ｱ窶堋｢窶堋ｿ窶堙ｭ, I was bored and I was checking out my favorite country (Japan of course) and I noticed that Iwo Jima has beautiful beaches and such. Do the Japanese travel there in vacation or..? Thanks for reading.

Well, I checked it out on Google Earth. Um. The second one. It says Iwo Jima, Tokyo. It's nowhere NEAR Tokyo though.

Why aren't civilians allowed there? Is it because it was an old World War 2 battlefield or..?

Iwo Jima of a battlefield of the Pacific Wars is Iwo Jima of Tokyo.
Inhabitants lived in this island before war.
Because there are a large quantity of unexploded shells, a commoner cannot go to an island.
Now there are Self-Defense Force base and a memorial service institution in this island.

Iwo Jima of Kagoshima
There are about 140 inhabitants in Iwo Jima of Kagoshima
Mishima including Iwo Jima is Mishima-mura.
This island is a sightseeing spot.
In this island, onsen / fishing / a peacock is famous.

Expensive!!

There is a tour outfit out of Virginia ,www.miltours.com that does tours there once or twice a year. It sounded like it costs $4000.00 US minimum per person. It wasn't too clear if you had to be former military or family of military to do the tour? It sounds like you only get a day or two at the most there and it's a "loaded with history" type tour, not a swim on the beach and play type.

There are lots of islands out there which are nowhere near Tokyo yet which are administratively part of Tokyo. "Tokyo" doesn't just refer to what most people (especially foreigners) think of as "Tokyo", which is the heavily-populated central 23 wards of the city. Portions of Tokyo (the "Tama" and "Oku-tama" areas) extend far to the west of that and include large tracts of mountainous wilderness.

I know it is really hard to find information on the internet, so I'll help you out with a link.
