Easy. They can ask for other ID or accompany you to your home to see any other ID such as your passport, naturalization papers, driver's license, etc. So don't lie. Ever. That is the worst thing you can do.

True, but you already know from my thread that I was still taken in and had to appear before a judge for not having my GC on my person. My case may be rare, but it still happened! Therefore, I still warn others, be very wary of being in Japan and not having the proper papers on yourself when out in public as you may be in for the hassle of your life!

I know. All I am saying is that one should not lie to the police about being Japanese (naturalized) when in fact you are not.
