( I apologize for not reading comments on this thread because i dont have time)
Based on my knowledges from living in Australia for over 14 years and espectially when I looked a bit like a Japanese I happenned to be in the center of attentions when i live in Aus these days.
Not only Australian but nearly every White people in Australia are the same and they hate Japanese for whaling. Despites having bad hearings, I happened to hear alot of comments from white people talking about Asian while walking on the street, they often talks to let me hear them and I really think that there are alot of supremacy in them. Definately!
White people often looked up to their own people so it's easy to explain why other countries such as America and countries from Europe are against whaling as well. They always war on other countries and kill millions of people and it doesn't count to them but when we have anything they are against, we will be in big trouble.
Anti-Japanese is not much of a whaling problem but it's more of supremacy. The white people in this case they are showing supremacy towards Asia and showing other countries not to mess with them, well...or else?
From my perspective, Australia has been struggling with growing racial conflicts as the country needs foreign migrants for economic growth, while they don't like to undertake non-Whites.
Japanese are not interested in foreign countries but only in tourism, and Australia is one of the resorts for tourism, but other Asians or the rest of the world see that country as a final destination....
Australian government says ....
At the 2006 Census, overseas-born people in Australia were from North-West Europe (1.4 million), Southern and Eastern Europe (722 000), South-East Asia (553 000), Oceania (496 000), North-East Asia (389 000), Southern and Central Asia (268 000), North Africa and the Middle East (251 000), Sub-Saharan Africa (192 000) and the Americas (180 000).
The biggest increases in population of overseas-born people between the 2001 and 2006 Censuses were from
China (64 000), India (52 000), New Zealand (34 000) and South Africa (25 000). Of the country-of-birth groups that had a population of more than 1000 at the 2006 Census,
the fastest growing were people from Liberia (up 1240 per cent from the 2001 Census),
Sierra Leone (up 437 per cent) and the Sudan (up 288 per cent).

Maybe in the near future, Australia becomes True Asia or Africa.
