Yakiniku recipe!

I found this yakiniku recipe and would love to hear what the experts think of it!

Of all those I read on the net, this one sounds tastiest, but also complicates what should be a very simple dish...hmm. Anyway, I should be trying it this evening and will post how it went, but please do comment or recommend any little alterations to the recipe you would make. 😌

Ingredients
# 1/2 lb thinly slicedbeef flank steak
# 1 onion, thinly sliced
# 1/2 cup chicken broth
# 1 green bell pepper, sliced
# 3 garlic cloves, diced
# 2 stalks green onions, sliced an an angle
# 2 tablespoons olive oil, for stir frying
# 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Sauce

* 1/4 cup soy sauce
* 1/4 cup Japanese sake
* 1/8 cup white wine (optional)
* 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
* 2 garlic cloves, minced
* 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Directions

1.Mix together sauce ingredients in a saucepan.
2.Heat at low medium heat until boiling (about 5 minutes, turn off heat).
3.Heat 2 tablespoon in a stir fry pan at low medium heat.
4.Add garlic and onion, about 8-10 minutes.
5.Add green bell pepper, stir fry for 2 minutes, set aside on a plate.
6.Using the same pan, heat 2 tablespoon of olive oil and sesame oil at medium heat.
7.Add flank steak daging, stir fry for 2 minutes on each side.
8.Add sauce and chicken broth, cook until reduced (about 1 cup).
9.Add onion, garlic and bell pepper back into the pan.
10.Sprinkle green onion and toasted sesame seed to finish.
11. Serve over steamed rice.
 
Is that the stuff they serve at Yoshinoya? My husband is always asking me to make it, and since I don't eat the stuff I don't know what it is supposed to taste like - does this recipe seem like it would taste similar?
 
No GG san, that's gyudon they serve at Yoshinoya - pretty simple to make though I think, and recipes abound on the net :)

Goldengirl, there is much for us all to learn, and even about the simpler things in life (and not least for myself!!) 😊

Please do try to make gyudon for your dear hubby - I'm sure he'd be over the moon. Imvho, it's one of those really romantic touches in a relationship; to do something so simple, knowing that that it means so much :) And the recipe is pretty simple, I think, and pretty much fool-proof with a few basic, necessary ingredients. Well, no yakiniku here for me as yet (meat once a day is more than enough, and I had to cook a roast pork lunch for my family here today - was pretty tasty actually; roast potatos, carrots, celeriac and carrots with a cider and onion gravy and of course CRACKLING!! 😌)

But hopefully tomorrow! :)

In the meantime, happy mealtimes one and all :)

🌹Awww.MOS....you are so sweet. I read the recipe you gave me a link to, they say it tastes like Yoshinoya! So yeah, I'll make it for my sweetie. It says thin slice beef, does it matter what cut? I am guessing not.....
 
Well, better late than never, I suppose (and hope!) I'm not sure of the cut Goldie, but it is super super thin, and quite fatty...

As for the original recipe, it was extremely salty, but perhaps I used too dark a soy sauce.

<edit> My word, almost a thousand views on here! Did anyone else try it?
 
Gyudon is more like sukiyaki than what we call yakiniku in Tokyo. Here's a pic of yakiniku which is simply broilled bite size bits of beef. (The secret is the dipping sauces for the meat--teriyaki, ground sesame, or something else I forget--IMO go with the sesame.)
