Whales off the Red List

This is what we need to see more of, however painful - the reality of whale hunting. Thanks for that, Kyoto Returnee. I think what we have here is some very immature and rebellious whale hunters, stubbornly refusing to consider others' thoughts and opinions:

While I watch, one of the crewmen—a wiry 48-year-old named Kjell Edvardsen—sees my blank stare and puts a bloody knife in his mouth. He gives off a pirate's snarl and, with a chuckle, digs back in.

Grow up, Norway! GROW UP, JAPAN!!!!!!!

Grow up, Norway! GROW UP, JAPAN!!!!!!!

Please tell that to the Indians who hunt whales too. Grow up Native Americans. Become more white!! Your culture sucks so please stop eating whales. And start eating hamburgers and become more like us white folks.

Cultural imperialism is a concept of the past. Get with the program. It you who needs to grow up. Harvesting a sustainable renweable resources is the most ecological sound way of producing food for human consumptions and should be welcomed by environmental organizations.

Although I don't see why shouldn't Australia stick to its opinion, mine is that no matter how you slay a whale, it will die, no "death-proof" method exists, so stop complaining that they die while being slain, of course they die. Would you rather eat a living whale? Please tell us about a method that would let people eat whale meat without actually taking it from whales.

The Australian government has agreed to do what is best for the whaling industry. They have signed a declaration a document therefore they are obliged to follow the document that they have voluntarily signed on.

OK. Thanks for the info. I will stop bashing Australia this time but many of you are not aware of the fact that you are bashing Japan by opposing whaling due to cultural preference.
This is a sub forum about whaling in Japan, no cultural bashing going on just questioning what is happening in the world. If you think this is cultural bashing then don't participate.

You are bashing Japan by not allowing Japan to eat whales.

I agree with you in that the idea that whale-killing is wrong and cow-killing is okay is a bit hypocritical. So how about, instead of becoming more "white," as you said, and eating hamburgers, we just adopt the ideas that some Buddhists have and stop eating meat and fish altogether? =)

They are religious freaks. Fanatics. Fundamentalists. Their anti whaling policy is racially motivated. They are discriminating against animals and people.

Whaling is discriminating against the rights of animals. What whale wants to meet that fate?

And by calling people names, bashing, and being, basically, mean, you aren't going to convince anybody. But nobody is going to convince you, either, so this post is probably pointless.

Have a great day =)

No, it's not pointless - it's very logical! Thanks, kairu. Ideally, we would all stop eating all animals. I've been vegetarian for about 3 years.

Just curious do you look down on people who eat whales?

If you are a vegeterian. Do you think it is worse to kill 1000 whales than killing 1 million cows?

You agreed with me that eating whale meat is less devistating for the planet than eating cows. Environmental wise.

I don't look down on anyone, centrajapan, and I think killing whales is no worse than killing cows. Since the subject here is whales, we're talking about whales. I don't know if I agreed with you that killing whales was less devastating for the planet than killing cows, but I probably agreed that raising cows and other animals on factory farms does contribute to global warming. But there are other considerations when killing whales, though I'm not enough of a scientist to know exactly how the eco system works in the ocean.
