This year summer is way way hotter then last year when I came here. And just now we just got an announcement from the tokorozawa ward office on the loudspeaker saying that they've recorded a whooping 38.2 Celsius over here.

So how's the temperature currently at your place? and any advice on coping with it without the usage of a air-conditioner?

Yes, it's been unusually hot here in Fukuoka as well. The days are getting shorter but the heat is still strong. I find I have increased cravings for ice cream everytime I step outside lol. Of course I have 3 separate A/C units in my home so I am loathe to leave my comfort zone in the middle of the day.

man~ I wish I could turn on my A/C, since I'm living on a tight student budget, opening the A/C for one day would mean I'd be eating rice and nattou only for the whole next week. lol

My house = oven! argh

Go to the local public library (air-conditioned) or swimming pool. It might be crowded but sure beats a small apartment.

To sleep at night, my recommendation (that I posted last year as well):
Icenon Pillow

Says it is 34 Celsius here up north on the coast. No breeze and few clouds. But it is still hotter in my apartment than outside.

And I hope this great, hot, melting-like summer weather goes on for another 3 weeks at least !! I use no air conditioning in the house, nor the car (most of the time). Even when at my office at the uni, in the last days of July, I do not use the cooler--only I do allow the students who come to talk or do work turn it on.

Yes...I'm so happy that it didn't turn out to be a cool summer, after all !! Live on Summer !! MM

I hope Kirirao san can somehow manage this dreadful heat. Without a/c, sleeping is almost impossible. I like the concept of summer where everything is green and growing, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and cicadas genki de yatte iru. :-) But I hate the actuality!! Let's hope for an early end to this wild heat. How about another typhoon skirting the Eastern edge of Japan and bringing some cool rain. 👍 😎
And let's hope for early snowfall this year...about the same time as Thanksgiving would be good I think. 🙂
