So I was breaking down the grammar of a sentence posted on another forum for practice use.

「自民党内では、政権の座をめぐって実力者の思惑が絡み、 事態は今後一層複雑になっていくだろう。 」

So I under stand the grammar and tried to mimic to the same structure with words more familiar.

里絵子とデーミアンは喧嘩して外の人の意見が絡み、彼らの関係は今後一層難しくなっていくだろう。

So My gf suggested this though over my sentnce.

里絵子とデーミアンは喧嘩をしてて人の意見が絡んで、彼らの関係が今後もっと難しくなっていくかも。。。

Here I don't understand the してて人の意見 part. Any suggestions.

喧嘩をして(い)て: している in its 〜て form
人の意見: opinions of (other) people

人 is sometimes used to mean people other than the speaker, and I assume, by extension, members of the speaker's in-group, but there also seem to be cases where you need ほかの before it. However, I am not clear on this distinction.

I thought when your speaking of people outside of the speaker's group ほかの would be needed. I can understand not specifying "other" in english but I was under the impression for japanese you couldn't be so vague.

P.S.

I didn't know you could use a te form for a ....te form?!

You're not really using a -te form for a -te form; you're using the -te form of an auxiliary that's attached to another verb's -te form. That's not only possible, but happens fairly frequently, I believe.

頑張ります!ちょっと混乱したが、頑張ります。

そうでもないです。
どちらも、使い方によって自然ですよね。
Go ahead, you can use がい、ほか in this sentence regardless of your gf opinion ! 👊 Even in English "we fight, but people's gossip intervenes...." blah blah and happily, there's rarely a case of needing to be more specific in Japanese ! 👍
ケンカして(い)て is only making the fighting ongoing, into the progressive tense....

I hope this is only your example, btw... :(

外の人 would probably be read そとのひと meaning people outside. Use 他人 (たにん) or 他の人 (ほかのひと) to be clear. がい is right out.

Another word is よそ.
e.g. よその人.
Just my two cents.
よその人だと、「他の町の人」ってような意味になるんではありませんか。最初の例文と合ってないと思います。

たしかにそうですね。最初の例文のところまで考えていませんでした。
よその人だとOthers というよりはoutsiderですね。

Oh, that would be a problem. 外部の人、外部者、よそ者。。。アウトサイダーmaybe ?

And keep in mind that very often 他人 is read ひと.

The use of ひと with the same meaning as たにん is easily shown with phrases like ひとごと for somebody else's business. Which all goes to show what the original poster should have known in the first place.

Listen to your girlfriend, and don't trust people who tell you she's wrong.
