Yoshinoya Holdings Co. hopes to entice customers to try its newest and most exotic item: ostrich. The popular gyudon chain announced on 28 August that it had added an ostrich rice bowl to its menu. Known for its high protein content and low fat and calorie levels, ostrich is the latest meat offering from Yoshinoya, followed by beef, pork, and chicken. This expansion is part of the company's efforts to diversify its ingredients and provide customers with healthy and satisfying meals. The ostrich rice bowl, featuring thigh and fillet meat prepared in a roast beef style, is available at approximately 400 of Yoshinoya's outlets nationwide.

The dish is priced at 1,683 JPY (USD 11.60), including tax. The ostrich rice bowl is limited to 60,000 servings and will be offered until they are sold out. Yoshinoya said it will continue developing new products and expand sales, including online ones. The company also began selling cosmetics made from ostrich parts, saying that ostrich-based extracts offer excellent benefits for health and beauty. The cosmetics, including a skin care product containing ostrich oil, which is said to enhance the absorption of beauty ingredients, are being sold online through Speedia, Yoshinoya's wholly-owned subsidiary. Speedia, based in Ibaraki Prefecture, has been raising ostriches and developing products on its own farm.
