Hello there! I have a few lines that I don't really understand or not sure even after looking up dictionaries, so could someone please answer my questions?

1. 別邸に移してちょうだい
Does this line mean "please move the boy to the 別邸"?

2. 家族からも疎遠にされ、今はほぼいないことにされている。
I'm confused about this line. Is it about the boy being estranged from family and became like he doesn't exist, or is it about the 旧邸 having almost no people living in?

3. 早いうちに帰らないと本当に忘れられそうだが
In this case, does 早いうちに mean the same as 直ちに? I'm thinking the line means "If I don't return immediately, I will really be forgotten".

4. Does 詰んでいる mean "I'm at my limit" in this context?

5. 行動が読めないから虫も動物も苦手だ。
Does 行動が読めない mean the boy cannot predict the movement/behavior of bugs and animals?

6. いや可愛いけど...
I don't think I understand this line at all. Is the boy just praising the maid or is it about something else?

1)
Yes. Unlike ください, ちょうだい has an arrogant nuance, just like from master to servant.

2)
It's the former. The subject of the sentence is the boy.

3)
It's more likely そろそろ, i.e., before long.

4)
詰む means "to be checkmated" here. This is from games like shogi, go or chess.

5)
Yes.

6)
It's the former.

Now I see why it's always used by noble lady characters in anime and manga. Thank you for the note.

I wasn't aware of this meaning at all. I'm glad I asked. No amount of dictionary will help me with this.

I have more questions today if you don't mind.

1. Does ベスト here just mean "vest"?
2. Does 正装のタキシード here mean "a formal tuxedo suit"?

3. I can't find what ペローン might mean with Google. Could you tell me what it means here?
4. In this context, does 歩みよる just mean "to approach"? Or does it mean something different?

5. Does 無理がありすぎる mean something along the line of "that does not sound convincing at all"?

6. 期待していただけにこの対応は結構こたえる
I don't quite get this sentence. I'm guessing that it mean something like "it's precisely because I was getting my hope up, the way they reacted made it pretty clear that my hope was in vain", but I'm not sure. Please correct me.

7. I've seen なに used like this sometimes but I don't quite understand the usage. Could you please explain it?

8. What does あの家族のことだ mean in this case?
9. Does いよいよ mean "finally" in this context?
10. Does ばかりに mean "simply because"?

11. Does the phrase 枯れた白い薔薇の花言葉 mean "withered white rose in the language of flowers"?

https://i.imgur.com/7WnTtPx.jpg
12. Does いかがお過ごしですか just mean "how are you doing?"

https://i.imgur.com/74WNq43.jpg
13. About the リハビリ, does the boy mean that he writes letters as a form of rehabilitation, or does it have another meaning in this context?

1) 2)
Yes.

3)
an onomatopoeia to peel/skin something off easily

4)
It's not just physically but also mentally, just like close relation in that context.

5)
Yes, that's right.

6)
こたえる means "to be in a hard/tough/intolerable situation" like きつい.

7)
なに【何】 の解説
3[感]
2 意に介さない、懸念するに及ばないという気持ちを表すときに発する語。なんの。いや。「―、ちょっとしたことさ」

It's like "well, it's not serious/important, but,,,".

8)
It's understandable/reasonable/not surprising that they(=あの家族) (will) do such things.

9) 10) 11) 12)
Yes.

13)
It's just "rehabilitation".

Thank you again for the quick response! I've taken some good notes as usual :)

I think I need to ask one more question to fully understand the line. Does この対応 refer to the way the other guys treat/react to the character? Or does it just mean he's having a hard time dealing with the situation?

Last time I forgot to ask about one word. Does おろす mean to bring out a new set of clothes to wear in this context?

Does この対応 refer to the way the other guys treat/react to the character? Or does it just mean he's having a hard time dealing with the situation?
It's the former. He's having a hard time dealing with the situation because he expected but the way the other guys treat/react to the character is not like that.

Does おろす mean to bring out a new set of clothes to wear in this context?
Yes, that's right.

Thank you again for the explanation. The line is all clear to me now :)

I have a few questions for today.

1. By わかってる, does the boy mean that he knows it's bad to scream at the girl's ears? Or does he mean that the girl knew he would react like that and still moved too close? I'm having a hard time grasping whom it's about.

2. What does ポッン mean in this context?

3. I'm not really sure about 通し. Does 一回通しで弾くmean to play through the whole piece one?

4. Does やましい気持ちに負ける mean "to give in to guilty thought"?

1)
It's the latter.
くせに almost always has a nuance of blame, so it's mostly used towards others.
ぞ at the end of the sentence is also the key. This particle shows blame to others, too. If he said about himself, ひどい(よ)ね is used instead.

2)
"Tsu" is the large one, not the small one there. ポツン is an onomatopoeia to express solitude, as you might know.

3)
Yes, your interpretation is correct.

4)
Yes.

Thank you for the explanation. These subtle yet important clues will definite come in handy for me in future readings :)

I was wondering if it was a large tsu. Thanks for confirming it. Although I also didn't know about ポツン before this.

I have a few questions for today.

1. Does もう残せない雰囲気なので mean something like "because I'm no longer in the mood of leaving food uneaten"?

2. I'm a bit confused by the word 一夜 here. Does it actually mean "one night" in the context? Or does it have another meaning? There were at least
2 nights before this chapter.

3. By 坊っちゃんのお傍にいる次第, does the girl mean whether she has work to do depends on whatever happens while she stays with the boy?

4. What does ボヤーっとしてmean in this context?
5. Does 自分で言うのもなんだけど mean something along the line of "I don't mean to sound patronizing"?

6. Is ボウ the onomatopoeia for the flickering flame or the dripping candle?

1)
Yes, and the "mood" is made by her.

2)
一夜を共にする/過ごす means "to be intimate with each other" there.

3)
次第 means something like "reason how it happened" in that context, so it's close to はい、なので坊ちゃんのお傍にいるんです "Yes, that's why I stay with you."

4)
to be dim

5)
It's more likely 自分で言うことではないけど. He doesn't want that others avoid communicating with him, so he said "this shouldn't be something I bring up, but,,,".

6)

Thank you again for these details. I definitely couldn't hope to understand these with just dictionaries. Time to take note again :)

For today I have the following questions:

1. Does から in 流行ってから mean "because" and not "after"?
2. Does その数 mean the number of witches and not their magic items?
3. Is コツコツ the sound of knocking on the 釜? Or is it for something else?
4. Does 別にいいけど mean "sure, I don't mind" in this context?

5. Does the last line mean "I pushed everything on him and pretended that nothing ever happened"?

6. Does ちゃんとした格好 mean a carefully dressed attire? And did the girl mean that she was late because she spent time deciding what to wear?

7. Is まいと=ないようと? I'm guessing that the boy means that the girl was saying that his food tastes good in order not to hurt his feeling, but I'm not quite sure.
8. まず人の前に出すものとして考えて作られていない
Does this like mean something along the line of "you didn't consider the fact that you are making food to serve other people"?
9. Does 常識とかにうるさい mean "to be fussy about common sense and stuff"?

10. In this case, does 自由 means "carefree"?
11. Does 料理にはなんの期待もしてなかった means he didn't expect that the old man would compliment his cooking at all?
12. Does ひととおり弾ける "to be able to to perform at basic level"?

13. Does 日ごろの感謝を伝えたかった means he wanted to thank them for what they do everyday?

1)
It's "after". ~てからというもの is a set expression, used for a case "after an action had been done, a significant change happened".

2)
Yes.

3)
It's the sound of her shoes. It shows that the surface of the floor she is walking on and the material of her shoes are both hard, just like marble floor and leather shoes, and not carpet covered floor and sneakers.

4) 5)
Yes.

6)
ちゃんとした means decent, proper, appropriate or like that. She might be late because she dressed up.

7)
Your understanding is correct. It's ないように or ないようにと, though.;)

8) 9) 10)
Right.

11)
It's about himself. He didn't expect that his cooking went well. (He knows that he isn't good at cooking.)

12)
The nuance of ひととおり is closer to "generally" there. He might be very good at playing an instrument, for example.

13)
That's right.

Thank you again for all the corrections. It's time to update my notes again :)

ちゃんとした means decent, proper, appropriate or like that. She might be late because she dressed up.
I have one last question about this part to make sure I really understand it. Does the line メイド服だとなんだと思ったので、ちゃんとした格好で来ましたよ mean "I was thinking whether to wear a maid outfit or something else, so I ended up changing to a proper dress and came (to the party)"?

なんだと思った is kind of a set expression to express surprise, disbelief or criticism.
I'm not sure how to capture the exact nuance in English but essentially it means "I thought maid clothing would be inappropriate so I came dressed properly."

なんだと思った indeed can express "surprise, disbelief or criticism", but the pitch accent type of this なん is type1 /ナ]ン/ (high-low(-low)). On the other hand, なん in the topic is type0(flat) /ナン=/ (low-high(-high)). Thus, these two なん are different ones. The former is the definition #3, and the latter is #2.

なん‐だ【何だ】 の解説

2 直接言うのがはばかられたり、適当な言い方が見つからなかったりする場合に、代わりに用いる語。「自分で言うのも―が、僕ならできる」「つまりは、―、もうやめたいということか」

3 感動詞的に用いて、意外なことにあきれたり、がっかりしたりする気持ちを表す。「―まだ終わらないのか」「―君か」

This なん is the same meaning/usage as the one in 自分で言うのもなんだけど in the post #9 question #5, and the meaning is indeed "inappropriate".

Thank you both for explaining this. This is something I wouldn't be able to figure out from dictionaries with my level :)

There's one more thing I forgot to ask about last time.

I've checked the phrase 気を取り直す in a few dictionaries but I'm still not quite sure about it. In this context, does it mean something like "to make this party fun again"?

Weblio and goo dictionary are useful, too.

He is talking about himself there.

Hello again! I have some questions for today.

1. Does 大胆なすっとぼけなんだ mean something along the line of "You have the audacity to play dumb"?

2. I'm not sure if I understand the part と思わんでもなかった. Does it mean something like "I couldn't help but think that"?

3. Is よくもまぁ similar to よくも?
4. I can't understand the use of から in 服の上から. Can someone please explain this?

5. Does 女子女子したもの mean "girly things"?

6. What does キツい mean in this context?

7. Does 時間になっちゃった mean "it's already time to leave"?
8. What does 甚だしい mean in this context?
9. Does 何様ってかんじー mean "you're like nobody to me"?

1)
Yes.

2)
思わんでもなかった/思わないでもなかった is double negative, so it means (少し)思う.

3)
Yes.

4)
から の解説
2 経由する場所を表す。

It means "to touch through/over the clothes". 上 is "outside" here (e.g. 服の上にコートを着る).

5)
Yes.

6)
can't bear (to look at~)

7)
Yes.

8)
It's "extreme", so the sentence means "You've got it totally wrong" or along the line.

9)
様 is used a honorific for him there, something like 殿様か何かのつもり?, so it means "you're overestimating yourself".
