I have been doing some Japan cycling since 2019 I think. On my journeys I have met Japanese people that are very kind. I travel solo and do free camping and "wild camping" and also sleep on bus benches.
My journey will begin here. Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage

I will try to post daily pictures here on this thread. One of my challenges will be, can I do it on about 200 yen a day. In all seriousness, my Japanese Nekin is only 24000 yen every 2 months.

Stay off the trains this time--cycle/pedal it instead of paying/riding a train to get from point A to point B.

Hopping trains is not a cycling trip.

Sorry its the 28th.
On the trip to Hiroshima, of course I will take the train, route 2 is suicide .
Shikoku is all biking.
My good friend Johnny hoping a train is to keep ones safe is fine for me. You and I are 70, so I hope you understand with a caring heart that we must live by the wisdom we pray to God to. Buy the way, I think you are very talented as a photographer .

Yes and stay off ferries too. Riding a boat is not cycling.

Yes, you're right that is a conundrum. I suppose we could give you a pass if you carry one of these with you and make sure to pedal the entire time you're riding ferries.

Shikoku is beautiful! I look forward to seeing your photos! You must have strong legs; I remember Shikoku (well, most of Japan, really) as being quite hilly.

Was going to leave this morning, but thunderstorms and lightning on and off all day. I'll see what tomorrow morning brings.
I did make a list for my 2 week camping of Shikoku.

I understand it's only a 10-minute ferry ride so I think I'll make it.

For the tee-shirts I suggest not taking traditional cotton t-shirts but the sports type that don't retain water and dry quickly.
For flashlight, I suggest taking a head lamp to keep your hands free.
Also you don't mention fuel for the stove but I assume you have it.

Yeah I need to get the appropriate t-shirt. I got three t-shirts but they're not really the right ones but for the time being it'll be okay.
The fuel I'll buy at the cosmos is pretty cheap three cans for less than 400 yen I got the little camp camping burner.
Can't put the fuel on the train anyway.
You know I had a headlight and I forgot to bring it but I got a small flashlight and I got the flashlight on the bike also so I got two two I also got the USB no battery flashlight for the 10th so everything's pretty I'm trying to go really light as possible this is only two week tour so I just tried to keep it as simple as I possibly can.
I'm at the train station now all packed up waiting for the train at almost 6:00 in the morning.
Skies look pretty clear but I understand it might be raining later on.
That reminds me I need to take a picture I think I'll post it here to stay tuned..

I did something similar once but it was on a motorcycle so a lot easier than what you're doing. I hope the weather gods bless your trip.

Thanks. I'd rather have a 4 lb tent then this 6 pounder but I already had one of those cheap tents and my third time using it the poles broke the aluminum that they use for the poles and they're really thin and when you really put a lot of pressure on them they just snap and really got upset me because it was Amazon and it was like 6000 yen I only used it two times but maybe three times but on the third time anyway it snapped.

It's raining now but I think the Sun is going to start cracking through the clouds probably within the next hour.

The reason why I'm taking the train up the Hiroshima is because two years ago I rode my bike on route 2 and its suicide and I've never going to do it again so I'm taking a train.
I'm at Shin-Yamaguchi right now.

I now got a 2-hour train ride to Iwakuni.
I'll see what I can do about taking pictures while I'm on the train going to Iwakuni , it should be pretty neat a lot of farmland I would think so.

Hey guys I wanted to post tonight I don't have the cord to charge my phone so I hope tomorrow I can find a diesel I hope so but I took a lot of pictures today I'm at a very safe campground tonight so you guys don't have to worry about me everything went on pretty good I covered two Bridges and I didn't it rained okay it rained on and off and I stopped off to brakes and I don't know how many kilometers I I put on the bike today actually I do know cuz I took a copy of it and I don't want to say 40 I actually no no I don't know if I find out I'll post later okay I'm going I am tired I've been up since 3:00 this morning and the son of a gun I don't have I can't charge this phone can't believe it

That time is wrong it should be 5:00 anyway I think I started got off the ferry around 1:30 something like that maybe a little later but may I okay I'll say from safe from 2:00 to 5:00 that's the time.

Day two I packed up my tent and it's raining not too hard right now I'm going on my third bridge and there's a 7-Eleven or some convenience store I don't have the cord to charge my phone so you guys might not hear from me too much today here's a picture of my bike ready to go at 7:30 in the morning going toward the third bridge.

Well it stopped raining now skies are still cloudy on just going to rain all day though.

Oh bummer. That's too much rain. I hope it clears up soon. And get a cord and charge your phone. That's the most important thing besides air in your tires.
