Japanese - German WW2 token?

Hi all,

This token(?) was unearthed by a metal detecting member of an online coin collectors forum. I am guessing that it has something to do with the Japanese-German pact but that may not be correct. Either way, we are stumped. A translation of the character (kanji?) might help with identification. I assume there is more to the left that is lost.

Thanks. Must admit, England was not on my list of possible words given the item. Odd.

This is really mysterious. The swastika is right-facing (卐, referring to Hinduism or Nazi symbolism), while the left-facing manji (卍) is still used on Japanese maps to denote Buddhist temples.

Did they post the reverse, too?

Update: found the original thread. Seems the reverse does not show anything.
