Your first Japanese band?

hmmm....the first jpop I listened to was......wow I can't really remember,it was such a long time ago. I thinkit was The Oh My Goddess Family Club (animeOST) So I guess it doesn't really count. Next was............either aiko or kokia. Then gackt, hide, malice mizer and dir en grey in that order.

The first band I listenned to was Glay... I didn't really like it... It was my boyfriend's favorite band...

But the first band I really likes was Dir en Grey and they are still my favorite japanese band!!!!!

Vive Dir en Grey!!!!!!!!

I think it was Kimura Yuki with "Fall in You" ..
But my first real J-pop band was "Every Little Thing" with "Pray".

The very first song I heard in japanese was the Shima Uta song, I think its from a band called The Boom or a guy name Alfredo Casero or something, I'm not sure there since I had to find that song in kazaa...

The first band for me was L'Arc~en~Ciel and I love them so much. I have all their albums too ^^.

Ayu....

My first Japanese band(actually one person) was Ayumi Hamasaki...And she made me become an addic of J-pop ....

For me, it was X Japan first, then Dir en Grey, then Malice Mizer, and Gackt was last. I think that Seikima II was somewhere in there, too.

A penpal turned me onto Shonen Knife about five years ago and I've been a fan ever since. What a great band!

Amuro Namie, 181920 cos my cousin leant it to me. I don't like her new stuff though. I still haven't figured out what "body feels exit" is supposed to mean...

definately Gackt. I just downloaded mp3s from kazaa... maybe it was Vanilla... or U+K... (that time I did not know that this song is dedicated to Kami!) I downloaded some Ayumi Hamasaki songs, too but... well, she's not my style.

My fisrt song is "Driver's High" by L'arc~en~ciel! In Italy there was GTO Anime whith this song for opening transmission; then the passion of j-rock was a normal event...

dot hack//Liminality - EDGE
that's the song that got me into Japanese

I guess Do As Infinity was my first Japanese band though...first male band was GLAY...

the first stuff i ever heard was an anime theme song cant remeber which one. but the first artist i really listened 2 was mikuni shimokawa cause i really liked her songs from Full Metal Panic. then a friend gave me a cd by super euro beat, and now im listening to do as infinity and looking for other artists to listen too.

Dreams Come True, when I saw the swan princess when I was little ; (I'm not a pop person though)

and then next came X Japan, then GLAY, then Zilch, then Spread Beaver, then Dir en grey, then Luna Sea

Shingo Mama was the first single i bought and therefore first i listened to. he's the coolest cross dressing kids idol i've ever heard.

Smap.1st listen to them. So impressive. Keep going, smap—ganbatte ne.

I remember the first two CDs (actually singles) that I bought were.... one was by SPEED when they were first starting and the other was "Can you Celebrate?" by Amuro Namie. I was nervous to buy and waited a long time....I forgot why now..but that was back in 96/97 I think???? I bought them from Tower Records in Shibuya.

After watching Battle Royale and hearing the song at the end credits I became an immediate fan of Dragon Ash. I also listened to some Shonen Knife around the same time too. Since then, my playlist has expanded with Japanese bands.

The Tigers with Kenji ("Julie") Sawada as the lead singer. 1966.

The "group sounds" era.

Nice! Glad to hear someone mention the GS era here... I definitely like The Tigers, and here are some others I like as well:

The Spiders ("Etenraku-a-Go-Go")
The Golden Cups ("This Bad Girl")
The Mops ("Asamade matenai")

Can't claim any of them as my first J-group, as I picked them up much later... but definitely worth checking out!

first thing I hear doutside of games and anime was namie amuro.. and the first thing i bought was ayumi hamasaki's second album .... but now i listen to alot of jrock.. so its wierd lookin back at where I started <__<;;;
