XP PRO & IE BROWSER PROBLEM??

Since I loaded XP PRO about 2 monthes ago, I find certain websites won't let me leave? The only way I can get out is to CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and click on end program now. Then I get an error message. Never ran into this problem before now, anyone else have it happen?

Don't really know what's your problem, but have you tried using Spybot's immunization?
Else, have you tried using Firefox for the same websites?

yeah just use firefox instead of IE and save yourself all kinds of problems

Hi, Frank!

Yes, I agree, too. Use Mozilla Firefox as your default browser. It has an IE plug-in called "IE View" (you have to install this at the Firefox website) to view pages that MUST be seen with IE. You can switch freely this way. Protect yourself from all that spyware and malware with this, as well as software to protect you from these malicious things.
Just in case you don't have them, freeware for you to download and use (and update):
Spybot Search & Destroy
Lavasoft Adaware SE
Spyware Blaster
They are MUSTs for everyone surfing the Web!! (Actually there are more...)

Frank, I've had similar things happen. It seems to be some sort of embedded program. Usually when I have this happen it is something called "creative" But I only have this problem when I try to use the "back" button! I have found that I can click on the drop down box on the back button and usually choose a different site...that gets me around it...but I have never had a problem going forward!

lol, if there's a problem on his computer, using firefox isn't going to fix the problem... it's just going to avoid it isn't it?

okaeri_man is right. I found it fairly intersting that everyone assumed he was using IE off the bat. Frank nowhere on the post said he was using IE.
Anyways, the issue could lie in the plug-ins, such as for Java. Do you mind posting some of those sites that won't let you leave? There is actually one site that practically freezes my browser (I'm using Firefox...) from trying to load a Java chat status applet. Maybe this is a similar problem you have.

I am using IE because it's just too hard to get used to something new. After 5 or 6 years with IE, just hate to change. I will keep track of the sites that lock me up. I don't leave the Forum often so it only happens about once a week. I would say it's maybe 1 out of 10 sites that lock me in. I will start keeping a lig to see what they have in common. I'm just curious what makes it happen, since I never ran into it before. I figure it's an XP "PRO" issue, since it never happened with XP HOME. Thanks everyone for the input!

Frank...I used to think the same way, but last week I downloaded Firefox and I love it! The tabs feature is very nice...and I haven't seen a popup ad yet! Still getting used to all the bells and whistles, but so far I love it...I imported my "favorites" from IE, and I still use IE from time to time, but I haven't seen any error messages since I began using Firefox and it hasn't had to close on me like IE used to!
