would you prefer this or that?

A friend told me: akai to shiro, dochira ga iidesu ka? is a big no no in japanese while the following is by far more correct:

akai to shiroi dewa, dochira ga suki desu ka

is that true?

thanks

There are a few errors...

akai to shiro, dochira ga iidesu ka?
akai to shiroi dewa, dochira ga suki desu ka

(1) If you're talking about the type of wine, it should be 赤 (noun) not 赤い (adjective) and 白 not 白い.
(2) Grammatically, both are correct to a certain level, except akai/shiroi.
In a way, what your friend suggested is less correct as it has two errors.
(3) These two have different in meaning.
aka to shiro, dochira ga iidesu ka?
(Red or white, which suites you better?)
aka to shiro dewa dochiraga suki desu ka
(Red or white, which do you like?)
(4) In the situation where you want to ask your customers about wine, both are not really appropriate. You should be politer.
e.g.
赤と白、どちらがよろしいですか。
赤と白ではどちらがお好きですか。

"Dochira ni shimasuka/shimashouka?" I think is OK, too. But a lot of casual bar/cafe type places don't even bother with "desu"/Masu."

Nomimono ha? Gochuumon ha ? Toppingu ha? Okimari ha ? 😅 :hungry:
