Why is the UK so boring?

Why is it that in the states, Japanese foods/cookware/cutlery/restaurants etc. are common places to go to and visit Why is that the UK is so off-putting to new business (more so in the south west england - hence Plymouth).

For example: to buy a variety of bento boxes (the ones you would make yourself and carry around) requires going online and possibly ordering which could take up to 1 month. Tableware is very hard to find - take a ceramic rice bowl for example, seen plenty of plastic ones

This is just some of the things that i hate about the UK, everything is extremely hard to get unless you know someone from japan or the states, then even then, you have to trust and hope what you get suits your needs.

I know this sounds like frustration on not finding anything i want without the hassle and to tell you the truth, i guess it is frustration i just wish we had more stores, restaurants, vending machines (looked at some images - unbelievably cool)

So anyways: Why is the UK have to be boring?? answer below
 
I agree. The UK is boring...
There are plenty of Chinese people about nowadays (increased a lot in the last 5 years), but you don't find many Japanese people.

Your best bet would be to move near to a University such as Liverpool, and there are quite a few Japanese around them.
However, no, you can't buy much from Japan. What I suggest is:
Learn the language fully, go to a Japanese online wholesaler selling things that aren't currently sold here (like ceramic rice bowls), import them, grasp the niche in the market (as Sir Alan Sugar says) and sell them here yourself (making a lot of money and increasing the Japanese product market excluding technology here - people will see you making loads of cash and will want to do so too.), then you will be able to buy anything you want that is Japanese.

Risky, but that is the best way to do it.
I think that idea was good, I might do it!
 
your not kidding i would make a killing, only trouble is that:

1. that the prospects of making a profit, isnt only tempting, it also requires money and lots of money going to have to save a little bit first lol
2. speaking of which, i am learning the Japanese language, but only started bout 1 month ago, so again need time (about 15 yrs shud do) for the record, Japanese is one of the hardest languages to learn...

But i commend you for your very good idea, and i will certainly do some research into it... Probs sell on eBay or something.
 
Or you could just come down to London more often - there are many Japanese people here.

If you didn't know already, Piccadilly Circus is where the Japanese community is based. There is Japan Centre, Mitsukoshi and a whole selection of Japanese supermarkets/restaurants. I'm sure you can find what you need here.

(Other than that, yes. UK can be rather boring. The Japanese friends I know tend to not want to linger in the the UK and would rather go back or travel during holidays. You know it's over when you even find London boring. =P)
 
I would linger in the UK too if i could just get a visa so i can live in japan, would make things so much easier. just think the restaurants, supermarkets, vending machines and no one could forget the TV .. making me tingle all over lol
 
Yeah! Vending machines that you can use your smart phone to buy things with, although the technology is good, it IS easier to put some money into the machine and press a button...
Plymouth is even more boring than the shopping channel on TV...
 
I see England as a beautiful garden. London is also an absolutely must.

Ther are 4504 Japanese living in Amsterdam, 897 in Rotterdam, 802 in The Hague and 167 in Tilburg where I live.
Tilburg has the Fujifilm, Japanese (small) school and at least 2 Japanese restaurants, I visited borth.
Altogether, there are 7602 Japanese living in Holland.

I will be visiting London next year Spring with my daughter.
 
Wonder what the stats are for the England - Plymouth lol Amsterdam seems a good place to go and visit Surely they must have some awesome supermarket where you can buy almost anything that you could possibly need, as that is what we need in the UK - mainly Plymouth

Man!! i wish i was somewhere else other than the UK, anywhere would be better at least
 
The UK is boring because of the lack of Japanese culture? Anyway, here in London there are millions of Japanese restaurants, and everyday I hear people speaking Japanese. There are 20,000 Japanese living in London aparently.
 
on holiday in USA and they sold pocky. You have to go all the way to picadilly circus to find anything Japanese xD
 
so if you want anything Japanese, you have to go to London to get anything... only prob is, london is one of the most hated places to go to in my book simply that it is utterly chaotic. Shame that Japanese culture is just located and centralised in one place (hence London) might be worth a trip sometime to really see what's there or do you know of any other places within the UK, south west England region for example

Can anyone recommend any places on the most go and visit list? In London. and General directions

OK, I have been to Plymouth twice (with the German Navy) and I have to admit that as far as places go, it blows. All it has is a Tescos and a couple of bars that sell cheap alcopops.
As for the UK in general, hey at least you have Midsommer Murders.
I fear that I will face the same issues once I move from NZ to Italy late next year. The issue arises from the fact that Europe has so much to offer in terms of cultural diversity that little interest is piqued regarding anything else. this means that suppliers of 'fringe' goods are only fullfilling a niche market.
 
Perhaps you should move to another country???
 
I know there are three Japanese restaurants in Nottingham. One in the centre, one down Lenton Boulevard and one on the A60 up near Sherwood. Plus there is a Wakagama near the Theatre in the center.
 
England isn't boring. The Midwestern United States is boring. I'm a white guy, but since I have a vowel on the end of my family name, I may as well have been born on Mars there. And the Chinese restaraunts serve sweet and sour sauce made from ketchup. Yum.

Anyway, yeah, I wouldn't say the UK is boring. Maybe because I'm not English, though, and haven't lived there all my life. But, aside from being looked at funny because I'm "a Yank", I think I'd like to live there after I retire... If I ever do decide to retire. It's either England or Upstate New York.

Oh, and you have better beer. Be happy. Your New Castle Brown Ale or Guiness doesn't sit in a bottle for three weeks before it gets to you.

And as for Japanese food and stuff, I think everybody has said to go to Picadilly Circus (although I've never been there, since Wayne and Garth said it was pretty sh--ty, what with no bears or clowns or anything).

As for Japanese paraphernalia... well... the intarwebz isn't only for porn, you know.

lol It would be the same for anyone in that circumstances, once you live in a country all your life, it becomes so monotonous that you want to live some where else, and all you can think about is how do i get out, after all anything is better than being stuck here.
Like Nohime said "Perhaps you should move to another country???" which is the very thing i would love to do, but like everything, tis easier said than done. Only thing I can say, is why on earth wasn't I born in Japan
Great place tho if you wanna settle down, nothing much more to do than help the garden to grow and no one couldn't forget sitting down on a chair wondering 'what to do next'

England is all about history with all our landmarks and our old empire. I'm sick of being forced to visit historical sites to see the wonderfully boring glory of castles -_-;; Everything is overpriced, the weather is gloomy, we are plagued by the unoriginal chav lemmings *stabs*

That's the funniest film reference I've heard in a while.

I hate London for that exact reason. It is utter chaos and incredably unenjoyable to visit. I have to go there to see my favourite band (who happen to be Japanese) live next month.

Actually Brighton has quite a few Japanese shops and restaurants. I see a lot of asian people around there.
 
London chaotic eh?, so Toyko must be the centre of tranquility, yah?
 
Cant argue with that lol after all they say Tokyo is the most populated city in the world, but I would easily settle for the chaos for the chance to visit Tokyo never mind live there Probable goes the same for a few other members in ere too

After all, happiness can come in many forms, even if they do sound a little odd to the next person.
