What type of Japanese knife is this?

My gf at the time (wife now) bought me this when she visited Kyoto, Japan back in 2005.
I think one of the engravings is my name (1st one) and the other I am not sure of? Does anyone know what it says? Maker?

Secondly is this a Santoku knife? or a different type?

That's the name of a knife shop/company. The site linked above says that Aritsugu was originally a swordsmith, and has a 450 years old history.
What is inscribed in the first picture is "karamu". Is this close to your name?

Yes, it seems like to be a santoku bōchō to me.

Thank you, my name is "Callum" so a little off but I guess hard to get a Scottish name into Japanese! It is a good knife but I need to learn to look after a Carbon knife so learning how to sharpen etc.
