I own a very large painting of a sumo wrestler. There are characters and it bothers me that I do not know what it means. Please help.

昭和丗年中院 光華
Shōwa sanjū nen Nakain Kōka
Nakain, 1975, Kōka

Nakain might refer to a temple.
Tendai Buddhisim NAKAIN

Kōka is probably the name of the artist/painter.

1955, although my wife who was born in 昭和丗年 would be happy to have it be 1975 instead.

Ooops, my bad. Yeah, I somehow confused Shōwa 30nen with 50nen.

So you are saying the characters are referencing a Buddhist temple? This is the picture that goes with the writing.

They could be. There's not enough context to come up with anything concrete. You could try contacting the temple in Kawagoe City and ask them if they know anything about it.

Is there nothing on the back?

Thanks for your reply Mike. There is nothing on the back. I will try the temple.
