A week after a heatwave scorched the Japanese island of Hokkaido, temperatures in the northern city of Wakkanai plunged 51 degrees Fahrenheit.

For people who do not know, Wakkanai is the northernmost point in Japan. Here is a video of a journey by train and bus up to Wakkanai. (This video is from Sapporo to Wakkanai, but I think the first part of this trip was from Tokyo to Sapporo by Shinkansen.) The monument you see is exactly on the northernmost point in Wakkanai and Japan.)
