Hello -- I plan to visit Japan next spring, and I will be in Tokyo for a few days. I follow Japanese politics somewhat. While in Tokyo, I'd like to visit the Diet building, and, if possible, sit in on a Diet session. Is one or both of these possible?

According to the Diet website:

Anyone can visit the House of Councillors on weekdays.
A Diet guard escorts visitors to the Public Gallery, the Emperor's Room, the Imperial Family's Room, the Central Hall, the Front Courtyard, and other places. The tour takes about 60 minutes. Those wishing to take this tour are requested to come to the reception desk for visitors.

But it seems like visitors are not allowed when sessions are in place.

Enjoy your visit to Japan!
