Visa types

Look in the attatched picture for a copy of what I am talking about.

The info around this is ambiguous, and the table isn't much help.

Basically, I'm asking about the section in the attatchement that says 'working visa'. It lists on the right hand side a bunch of jobs. Now, I won't be wanting to teach English, because i'm not very good at teaching.
Does this picture mean that I apply for a 'Working Visa' and can be allowed to do any of those things and switch between them, or do I have to for example, apply for a 'Entertainer Working visa' OR a 'Engineer visa' etc.

Also, my last questions are; if you have a 'working visa', can you work part time in shops etc? And also, do you have to be sponsered for a working visa (I ask this because some websites say you need sponser, but I can't find it on MOFA.)

Why don't you look at the web site that has more details? The MOFA site is mentioned often here.

More details than you can shake a stick at.

Get a certain work visa, and you can only work within its limitations. Humanities Specialist/International Relations has a wide berth, perhaps the widest.

Want to switch to an engineering visa? You'll first have to be qualified. Again, read the regs on the MOFA site.

Bear in mind, too, that some of the regs are mere guidelines, not hard and fast rules, but that's a bureaucracy for you. I'll be happy to try answering any specific questions if you have a scenario in mind, but please give some background info on yourself.

Depends on the work visa. The HS/IR type will probably allow that easily enough. This scenario sounds a little odd, though. Care to explain?

The answer is yes. It may be implied on the MOFA site, more than directly stated, but one trip to immigration will clue you in. Or look at this site and read what each application form for a work visa says (about what employer must be listed). It's the first item.

Ah, thanks Glenski. That was a real help.

By part time work, I mean for example, if you are working for one company, and leave, get part time job while looking for another company to join. Or if you are made redundant, you are stuck obviously, and need quick income whilst you look for more work.

If you leave one job and want to get PT work at another, you still have to abide by immigration regs.

1. If your visa type allows such work, you may still have to file for special permission to do it. Immigration Services Agency of Japan

2. If you quit, your visa is still valid until it expires. Part-time employers usually cannot sponsor visas, so you would have to keep the original sponsor, if he doesn't mind, or if you have already worked for a year on that visa, you could change the status to "self-sponsorship" (not an official term, so don't use it at immigration) whereby you sponsor yourself if you have enough part-time income from companies (private English lessons won't count).
