Video Maker goes to Okinawa

Hello,

My name is James Knott and I spent about a month in Okinawa . The first two weeks I spent meeting the Japanese half of my family and the second two weeks I headed around the island and shot video. I'm currently working on a series of podcasts that I am posting on my website about visiting Okinawa. Is there a way that I can embed videos from Revver.com into the site, so that I can share the videos that i made with the jref community. I think there are a lot of people here who would probably enjoy seeing them.

Hey there =)

I watched your videos earlier this morning on your website. They were interesting and I definitely learned a few things about Okinawa. I also enjoyed the scenery =P.

Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I've been trying to figure out how to reach people with similar interests and Japan Forum seems like a great place to do it. You should definitely go to Okinawa if you get a chance.

Nice videos. They were well done. That seemed like a lot of fun. The spider scene was classic. I take it that "gaijin" are regarded as somewhat of a novelty or spectacle. How did you learn Japanese? I would love to visit Japan. However, I am still apprehensive. I don't really know how well African-Americans are recieved in Japan. I still aspire to visit, eventually, nontheless.

Japan is a lot of fun. I had heard that I might experience racism as a gaijin in Northern Okinawa, but I never experienced anything like that. I found that if I was just polite and smiled a lot, that everyone was extremely friendly. I was a bit a novelty on more remote islands. School children would go out of their way to wave at me and say "hello" - which was strange feeling, but it always felt good-natured.

I learned Japanese at Ohio University - that's also where I met my wife (in Japanese class). I took two years. I'm not that good at it. I just put the part where I sounded halfway decent in the video. I did get a lot better while I was there though.
