"Very" old instruments ??

DO any Japanese musicianians(SIC) make modern music using the old classical Japanese instruments ??

There was a Japanese festival here in Germany this year. On stage was a Jazz band that also used traditional instruments. I particularly remember that they used at least a sho in their performance (for I was fascinated by its sound).
I think the band was called Yamamoto, but not sure.
