The difference is limited in traditional Japanese food - and usually only at home.
Female's hashi (chopsticks) and o-chawan (rice bowl) is smaller, and while male hashi/chawan are painted in dark (blue, black for instance) female hashi/chawan can be painted in reddish colour.
BUT it is uslally limited within the family, if you have guests, and if they are a couple, same hashi/chawan are used to serve them. Same about traditional Japanese restaurants.
You should consider about the difference only when you are going to buy hashi or chawan (either rice bowl or tea cups) for a couple as a present, otherwise there should not be any difference.
