Universites in Japan

I just looking on the University of Tokyo's website and toying with the idea of doing a degree in Tokyo in 2 years time, so I looked for admision requerments of certain courses and couldn't find anything, of course, you'd have to be fluent in Japanese and know technically Japanese, but I couldn't find anything else. So I asked several people on MSN of they knew, and one said in Japan, it's usually done differently to the west, generally, you take a set admisions test paper on the degree course you want to go on and they access your knowledge of the subject rather than looking at your high school qualifications.

Is this true?

If you are going into Todai for the undergraduate degree, I doubt that that is possible. They will still need your high school qualifications. Unless of course, you come very very highly recommended by your government, i.e. you are especially brilliant and are sponsored by your government with diplomatic ties consideration. Maybe....

same here, I doubt it, I'm sure they will still need to look at your high school results if you are intending to enrol in an undergraduate course

Todai is like the Harvard/Oxford/etc of Japan. I'd be suprised if they didn't look at HS grades. With the massive number of applications they get each year, they have to weed people out somehow...

Are you talking transfer or exchange student, or what? And TODAI is not going to be a walk-in in any manner. ☝
