Hi there, could somebody assist me in translating the lines in this image?



I *think* it's a poem, but I have no idea what it says, so apologies if it's actually something profane - absolutely not intended! Thanks!

Ah, my heart rides the south wind..
Ah, run through the blue wind to that island

Some people here might have a better translation. I'm pretty poor at poetry. Also, I'm not entirely sure if that's an お or a わ after the second line.

Thanks Mike, I corrected it. Also changed お to わ.

This would have to be a Chinese person's attempt to handcopy Japanese song lyrics. S/He writes kanji much better than kana and even made a mistake while copying a simple kana わ.

That's very clever deduction. I never would have thought of that.

Could you tell me if that particular "shorthand" method of writing 風 is also used in Japan? I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean anything.

It is not used in the Japanese printed media or in real life by the average John or Hanako as you well know. 『风』 is the simplified kanji used in Mainland China.

For a Japanese person to use it, s/he would have to have some Chinese language experience. Those who know that kanji may use it for their own aesthetic purposes as in calligraphy. I seriously discourage the beginning or intermediate Japanese learner to use it in everyday writing. Just stick with 『風』.

Thanks very much. I am familiar with some of the common handwritten shortcuts but I don't delude myself that I am familiar with all of them.
