Translation help

I need a phrase translating if anyone could help. As I have trouble typing in kanji I best describe what it is. The first kanji is UN or hako (kodansha dictionary No. 2006, 12 strokes) meaning to move, carry or fortune. The second is the hiragana "da". The last one is the kanji AI or ito (kodansha No. 1606, 13 strokes). I'm not sure whether it would be read as "Un da ai" and I'm only assuming so. It's for a tattoo, not my own, that I have seen on someones neck which he believes reads as faith, hope and love, but I disagree, as the hiragana "da" throws me. Plus the fact the only one that matches is the kanji "love".

Maybe they were confused with 生んだ愛 or 産んだ愛。。。

That's the tattoo. So he has utter nonsense on his neck. I had a feeling it was, especially when questioned he said a Chinese girl said it was correct. I did point out that despite Kanji being of Chinese origin the languages are different and the middle symbol wasn't even Chinese. He also has a very badly tattooed kanji on his hand. It took me a few seconds to recognise it (one of a few I do), it turned out to be father.
The question is now do I tell him that he has gibberish on his neck?

It was correct as she translated those 2 Kanji characters to mean " lucky of love " or " fortune of love " in Chinese context.

True,some Kanji Japanese use have different meaning in their native language.

Maybe the tattoo artist was going for 運的愛､ - yun de ai. What did your friend think he was getting permanently written on his neck?

Faith, hope and love. Just a note he is not a friend, but a bloke I know from a place I collect from on a regular basis. I noticed the tattoo and asked him what he thought it said beacuse the だ drew my attention. He said it Japanese for faith, hope and love, which made me a little skeptical about it, hence the question. I was curious to what it really meant. So far the best translation I can come up with is "I'm a prat for getting a language permanently tattooed on my neck that I cannot understand in any way, but am willing to part with money to get someone who is just as ignorant as me in that language to put it there"

Well, 運だ愛 in Japanese is too far to be understood but 運的愛 in Chinese can be regarded as 「運命の愛」, means "true love" or "destined love". Still it differs from what that tattoo guy believes though it's better way to take. I'd rather not tell him the truth that most Japanese probably do NOT understand what it is when he really thinks his tattoo is proper Japanese.

It's completely different. "Lucky at love" is 恋愛運がいい in Japanese.

Eh? 運的愛 is still nonsensical in Chinese.

It would mean 'love belonging to luck', i.e. 'luck's love', which really doesn't make sense.

I guess Ricecake mistook 運的愛 for 愛的運, which (the latter) would indeed mean love's luck.

The terms are generic, so it's not necessarily 恋愛 as opposed to 愛.

OK, well I've simply never heard the phrase as 愛 alone in Japanese and they aren't usually interchangeable.
