Hi everyone,
I am currently doing some research on maritime propulsion, and I am trying to get a translation of the following table which provides a detailed weight breakdown for a typical diesel propulsion arrangement (known as CODAD : COmbined Diesel And Diesel).
Sadly, I cannot speak or read Japanese and none of the translation softwares I tried provided any meaningful results.
So far, my best guesses are that :
1) The first line (
value = 141.7 tons) probably refers to the propulsion (main) diesel engines.
2) The last line (
value = 370.0 tons) probably refers to the fuel capacity (bunkerage).
I have made some more guesses but they are even more "fragile" than what's above :
3) The second line (
value = 83.0 tons) may refer to the main reduction gearboxes (MRG) ? The MRG is a device used to transmit power from the engines to the propeller shafts.
4) The third line (
value = 45.0 tons) may refer to the diesel generator sets ("gensets") , which are auxiliary diesel engines used to generate electricity (as opposed to the main diesel engines which are used for propulsion).
5) The fourth line (
value = 80.45 tons) may refer to suspended rafts, i.e. flat structures on which the main diesel engines and the gearboxes are mounted in order to attenuate noise and vibrations.
Beyond that, the rest of the list includes such things as the propeller shafts, the propeller themselves and such things as pumps of various types, air compressors, waste heat water exchangers, reverse osmosis equipment,...
I would be delighted of someone could clarify this for me. Exact technical terms are not necessary, since I might be able to figure these out based on rough approximate translations.
