Yes, MotomanInuyasha, I'd agree at least that no one would think that anyone so pro-Japanese on top of anti-nonJapanese would sugguest that foreigners in Japan would make it better, but I think the writer left a logic error there in that question. I live here for the existence of the cumulation of culture, history and humanity, on top of natural beauty. Well, I would say that Lexico--who I find very good at debate--is on to something there. Especially the fact that we (or at least myself) can't see the whole context, and context is SO important a thing. Kind of thinking outloud, I would question, however, the ultimate value of good argument if it turns out to be more just good arguing on untruths--not to imply that the writer does not have SOME good points, no, but does use a fair bit of blanketing, it appears; and clearly wrong, to the best of my knowledge, on a number of points. I'd love to hear more from you all on some type of 'point by point' analysis of the truth value of each point (even though there would be some minus alpha due to lack of contextual setting)

i think that knowing the context of her posts is unneccessary
its about time someone argued and complained about the complainers
i may not agree with many of her points but i think even they needed to be said
usually its just foreigners bashing japan from every angle
i say what goes around comes around
her points may not be fair or true but then in many cases neither are those of the people she is attacking
shes fighting fire with fire and some people really dont like it
normally i dont like this kind of aggression but i think its pretty much tongue in cheek in this case
i suspect this is humor at a level most people are not getting

Whoever is behind the username japangirlstriksback, (s)he is quite intelligent, and as opinionated as anyone; judging from her (?) English, (s)he is either American-born nissei with a bad mouth or a Japanese compatriot who spent a lot of time with Americans for sure. (S)he might have picked up the Americanisms by an extended time of online chatting although I doubt the possibility; grammar, less some sloppiness which can be explained by spontaneous, hurried posting, is at an either native or near-native level imo. Her ideas are way to Americanised to be considered someone who learned the language after 12 or 13; in conclusion, she grew up in the US in all likelihood, and that is why her arguments and counter arguments are to the point and piercing the most vulnerable points of remarks made by native English speakers. She might be a bit opinionated, and has a bad mouth, but her arguments are as good as any made by an average native speaker. She is probably not a troll, but a Japanese person or a sympathiser who is very upset about unfriendly remarks from foreigners.

One last point about her trollishness:This recurring line, at first, appears like an insult in post no. 1, but in fact must be the thread topic or quote on which she is commenting. Once that can be seen, the trollishness seems much less than what it was on first impression.

Not really suprised, these kinda individuals exist everywhere, i did though not feel amused when she refers to all wives of foreign nationals in japan as "roppongi slappers", suffice to say im going to assume that isnt a nice place or name for a woman, my girlfriend is from tokyo, a normal suburb of it, she's even attacking the family of foreign nationals.

She's mostly ignorable but yeah, i didnt enjoy the fact she had collectivly labelled all the wives and partners of foreign nationals, mine included, as being some kind of **** i assume.

Ohwell, i guess she's never relised the level of freedom and equality in comparison for western immigrants in our home countries, compared to japan, and the general respect of individual human rights and freedoms, so maybe westerners are just too used to be treated fairly, our fault im sure.

Also agreed, she is probably japanese american, which, is ironic in the fact the very country she rattles on in 2defence" probably wouldnt considor her japanese.

That's right, a 'slapper' is not a nice word to use. It pretty much means ****.
IMO, the use of this word casts further doubt on the writer's japanese origin.
I was surprised to read it in the article because I've only ever heard it said by British people.

I know Roppongi isn't the nicest place in the world, but it is wrong for this person to make such generalisations. I met a nice friend in Roppongi when I was feeling a bit down,and she certainly wasn't a slapper.

It sounds like 'JapanGirlStrikesBack' has got some issues,for one reason or another - but that's her problem, not ours.

I wanna put good money "she" is a western(or maybe not) dude, playing a japanese girl, for his purpouse of trolling, that or she is a very angry racist almost masculine loudmouth.

I went to Roppongi, Tokyo in may this year, because there are quite a lot of clubs there. True,it's not all that nice to look at but I had an OK time there.
However, it doesn't feel as safe as other places I visited in Japan - there are signs up in the bars warning about theives. I know my pen pal is scared to go there, but she's scared of a lot of things.

It has become known as a place where foreigners hang out,and japanese people who want to meet foreigners. My japanese language skills aren't great so after a week in Japan on my own,I thought it would be a good place to have an english conversation. I met people from all over.

I also met a nice girl (not a slapper) and we have stayed in touch. I went to a brilliant little bar playing Reggae,complete with a japanese Rasta DJ!, and I wasn't hassled because I didn't want to go in strip clubs,like I was in Shinjuku.

Roppongi is a little grotty,but I would go there again.

i didnt read them all of course and couldnt find some of the threads but i think taken out of context they have pretty much the same effect
i think she said some things that need to be said in order to restore some balance
whether i agree with her statements or not is an entirely different matter
although i have to admit i did agree with some of what she said
and find it hilarous that people are getting so defensive about it

Gottcha!! That's cool. I would agree that balance is important in a lot of ways and areas, as long as it is realistic and based on discernible enough data bases. I agreed with a few things said also, but would argue that too much of it is too far off balance emotionally to make it so all-out worth paying close attention to.

May I say that (s)he has already struck a common cord of reason among us ? In that sense, I basically agree with you. No more blanket statements, but statements with properly applied, apt, descriptive qualifiers could vastly improve the many Japan related discussions on the board. Although the provocative tags of bashers and basher-bashers seem a bit aggressive, I get the gist of it.

In my case, I wouldn't exactly call her my friend, but I get the sense of a worthy opponent with common topics of interest and a shared set of logical basics that would contribute to the quality of debate. For a Japanese debater, she happens to be the second who gives me that hope for progress where I will have less repetition, less guessing, but clearly defined gain or loss on the logical battle ground.
