Actor Yosuke Kubozuka survives fall from 9th floor condo

Actor Yosuke Kubozuka
YOKOHAMA — Actor Yosuke Kubozuka survived a fall from the balcony of his ninth-floor condominium in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture on Sunday, sustaining injuries, police said.

The 25-year-old up-and-coming actor fell about 26 meters, hit a wire mesh fence surrounding the condo building and landed on a lawn.

Kubozuka's fall from balcony an accident, agency says

Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 07:55 JST
TOKYO — Actor Yosuke Kubozuka's fall from the balcony of his ninth-floor condominium in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Sunday was an accident caused by carelessness, his management agency said Monday.

According to a statement released by Infini Inc, the 25-year-old Kubozuka was trying to detach a device from the balcony to hold cloth carp streamers when he fell "due to carelessness." The actor is conscious but has broken some bones and needs to remain in the hospital while he recuperates, the agency said. (Kyodo News)

Kubozuka's popularity takes dive after nine-story fall

June 11, 2004

No soft landing for Kubozuka's career.
Bad boy actor Yosuke Kubozuka may have miraculous survived a nine-story fall
from his Yokosuka apartment, but even if he wasn't trying to commit suicide,
his career standing in Japan's fickle entertainment world can expect to
plummet, according to Shukan Jitsuwa.

Kubozuka amazingly walked away with just a few broken bones after his
26-meter plunge on June 6, but now conjecture is rife over whether he
deliberately jumped or accidentally fell.

"His handlers are saying he fell while he was trying to untie carp streamers
he'd put up for his young son, but I think you can look at the incident as a
botched suicide attempt," a celebrity world insider tells Shukan Jitsuwa.
"There're a couple of weird things about what happened. A fence about 9
meters away from the apartment cushioned his fall before he landed on a
patch of grass. He must have been traveling at a huge speed when he jumped
to have been able to hit that fence before reaching the ground. If he'd only
fallen, as his handlers claim, he would have landed just a few meters away
from the apartment at best. A woman who saw the whole thing has told
reporters she saw things so shocking she hasn't got the courage to put them
into words. It's almost as though she's being told the keep quiet in case
she says something that will destroy Kubozuka's career."

Not that there seems too much to get rid of anyway.

The firebrand 25-year-old has earned a reputation for blowing his top at the
slightest provocation. Those who know him say it wouldn't be out of
character to attempt suicide as he threatened to take his own life several
times before following arguments with his wife.

Kubozuka is also violent, having attacked a paparazzi cameraman in October
last year. His victim pressed charges and Kubozuka escaped jail only by
paying hush money to his victim and a 100,000 yen fine in cops' coffers.

He later appeared on TV in a T-shirt swathed in obscenities directed at the
media, and further cultivated his bad boy image by speaking out publicly on
behalf of marijuana, a weed most Japanese equate with hard drugs, as Sir
Paul McCartney knows better than most.

Kubozuka's tarnished name had already made it hard for him to get work.

"When his son was born in October last year, he announced that he was taking
paternity leave and spent much of his time at home. But, that was only
because he couldn't find any work. Nobody wanted him to do any acting for TV
dramas at all," a TV industry source says. "Kubozuka's handlers were trying
to flog him off to TV shows other than dramas. He got one travel show, but
caused so much trouble while they were making it that he's unlikely to ever
get another program like that again."

At one time, Kubozuka boasted of having lucrative endorsement deals with
seven companies, but now he has none. A movie released last month flopped so
badly, it failed to recoup its costs. Whatever really happened in Kubozuka's
apartment last week, it's hardly likely advertisers are going to be knocking
down his door.

"Any work that has a contract including a good behavior clause," an ad
agency insider tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "will automatically exclude Kubozuka
from the running."

Kubozuka is the best actor in the world and also pretty. I liked him best in Ping Pong as Peco. Such a good character and soo good acting!
I will find more pictures of him.. *goes out to look*

GREAT thread, 👍

Ok, here are some pics of him in Ikebukuro Westgate Park.

It's interesting about Yosuke-kuns agressive behaviour and the fall... I wonder if he's depressed, or if it was an accident. Could be because of the drugs he was using too... I really want him to keep on acting, he's really truly talented.

He already made some new movies after his strange fall, anybody seen one of these movies?

I'm very distressed to hear of Kubozuka Yosuke's fall and injuries. He has done some notable work in films like 'GO' and doramas like 'G.T.O.' I especially enjoyed a scene from 'G.T.O.' in which his character, a genius supposedly proficient in English, must converse with an American. I had to play the scene several times to figure out what he's saying -- it's almost unintelligible. He was very young at the time, and his attempt at English was so charming that he has had my heart ever since. I hope that he and his family are well.

Hi, I have a question. Last time I checked, Yosuke was no longer to be found on the Infinity website. I'd love to send him a letter, but I don't think he'll get it via Infini. Does anyone happen to know the current address? Thanks ;_;

Yosuke Kubozuka is the best actor I'd ever seen.
I have a question, too.
I have read, that he would be a singer now. Is this right?

Afraid so. Apparantly, because of his "flaky" personality, nobody wants to work with him and music is the only alternative left for him to make a living.
Btw Dutch Baka, the pic of him with the baseball cap, that's not him. It's the actor of IWGP's Masa in the special episode 😊

I really love this actor.
gotta love his hairstyle in iwgp. especially in the last scene in his wheelchair.
