It's been reported that Mr Komuro settled his debts with his mother's former fiance last Friday.

They said he accepted an undisclosed sum of money from Komuro that was intended to put the debt issue to rest. The former fiance initially wanted to meet directly with Komuro's mother, Kayo, to discuss their differences and settle the matter. But that meeting never took place, due mainly to the deteriorating state of her health.

The media also reported that Mr Komuro would return to New York today, Sunday.

The midday tv show we have on has been focusing on them for the last hour. They keep replaying footage of this walk through the airport. They pointed out the highly relevant fact that he's wearing a darth vader shirt under his sweater. o_O And, apparently, ramen costs -- gasp -- Y2500 in New York. And other dumbass crap. And of course they're still talking about the resolution of his families money troubles. I wonder when they'll lose interest and let them go in peace.

The Daily Mail stalking Mako. In detailed photos and videos.

EXCLUSIVE: Japan's Princess Mako shops for towels at Bed, Bath & Beyond and then gets LOST on way home to Hell's Kitchen on week after arriving in NYC to start new life with her 'commoner' husband

  • Mako Komuro, Japan's former Princess Mako of Akishino, arrived in New York last week to begin her new life in the US with her commoner husband Kei Komuro
  • The former Japanese royal is seen in exclusive DailyMail.com photos stepping out in the Big Apple alone to pick up some housewares and home essentials at Bed, Bath & Beyond
  • The 30-year-old spent about an hour and half shopping for bath towels, coat hangers, organizer baskets, some paper towels, and other items
  • She was dressed much more casually in a long forest green coat, black top, and blue jeans, and pushed her own shopping cart around the store and had no security detail protecting her
  • Mako, the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and niece of reigning Emperor Naruhito, received her first passport so she could accompany Kei to New York, where he works at a law firm
  • She turned down 140million yen ($1.2M) after leaving the imperial family, with the publicity surrounding her wedding said to have impacted her mental health
  • The newly weds are living in a Hell's Kitchen apartment building where one-bedrooms start at $4,500 a month

Japanese media, however, aren't any better:
