Did anyone watch the television programme last night(2nd august-for later reference), on channel 2, it was about the chinese, the way they can only have one child and they opt mainly for a boy to follow on the family business(take care of the house).

Because of there desire for having a son, it meant that as they get older there would be a ratio of like 8:3 boys:girls, so it was to be that some would just be bachelors for theire lives.

Anyone watch this programme?
even if you didn't what do you think on this subject?

No, that would mean woman are rare in china, and with that ratio that means one woman can have 3 husbands.

ax

It would also mean that many promising males can be free to spend their lives on more productive pursuits than rasing a family. *Bachelors shout, "Free at last !"*
Perhaps the Tibetan/Buddhist model of celibate life can be of some use here ?

edit: Korea is also facing a similar problem of sex imbalance in the budding population. Strangely, even without prenatal screening, many families are getting sons only. Why ?

"there would be a ratio of like 8:3 boys:girls"it is impossible~
Really, the rate of boy:girl is 120:100 in china now.I think it's not a serious problem:)
I don't agree with ax's words"with that ratio that means one woman can have 3 husbands",Mmm....maybe ax is not like china......
