Does anybody make sushi at home?
I made tempura shrimp roll last Sunday. Not so bad. Share with you. But I think most guys must have the crazy and amazing sushi recipe. Why not share with buddies and let every body try?
Ingredients:
8 sheets nori
4 cups sumeshi
4 pieces tempura shrimp
4 pieces fresh shrimp
1 omelet (I bought from a restaurant near my house. It took some time and patience to cook)
1 bottle fried nori
direction:
1. Cook sushi rice.
2. fry tempura shrimp as directed on the package. I prefer to frying the tempura shrimp because it tastes crisp outside but tender inside. However, you can bake them due to the healthy.
3. Cut heads off the tempura shrimp.
4. Slice tempura shrimp in half lengthwise, set aside.
5. Wash the fresh shrimp, cook in the boiling water until the shrimp change into the red color.(almost 45 sec), just count down when you cook
6. Remove the hard skin of cooked shrimp and discard
7.cut the tail and head of cooked shrimp
8. cut into half piece
9. cut omelet into thin slice big enough to wrap the cooked shrimp
10. Roll the sushi, using cooked shrimp pieces, omelet pieces ?? slices of tempura shrimp as your fillings.
11. scatter some fried nori
12. Serve with shoyu, wasabi

PS: I have no right to share the picture! How many posts should I have?

Thanks for the recipe it sounds really good! Not sure I'm big on the omlete part though.

Salmon Skin Roll

When I was living in Honolulu, Hawaii, I often used to go to a sushi bar called Akasaka located next to Ala Moana Shopping Center. This place served very good traditional sushi but also great fusion style sushi like California rolls. My fav was salmon skin rolls. You can find a recipe for salmon skin rolls in this following link. The rolls at Akasaka did not include avacado, which IMO isn't necessary. Also, the rolls were shaped into cones. A small dish of soy sauce was served for dipping.

Here's a sushi rice vinegar dressing recipe:

6 1/2 - 7 tablespoons Japanese rice wine vinegar

2 - 2 1/2 ounces Sugar

Prepare the vinegared dressing by dissolving the sugar and salt granules in the vinegar over low heat. Immediately remove from the heat and allow to cool.

.5 ounces plus a pinch Salt

1. empty the hot rice into a wide shallow pan or a hangiri tub. Don't let the rice cool.

2. Add the dressing by pouring it over a spatula or shamoji to help disperse the vinegar evenly over the rice.

3. Briefly run the spatula through the rice from top to bottom and left to right in slicing motions, in order to separate the grains and spread the rice.

4. Gather the rice to one side and using horizontal, cutting motions, toss the rice across to the other side in order to give each grain an opportunity to be coated by the dressing.

5. Gather again and repeat making sure not to mash or just stir. Toss the rice!

6. Continue to gently toss the rice until it starts to feel just tight. Stop tossing and spread out the rice in an even thin layer.

7. Using a fan, cool the rice to body temperature.

8. Make sure that you turn the rice over so that the bottom heat can be fanned to ensure the vinegar solution is well absorbed.

9. To keep rice from drying ou, place it in a smaller container and cover with a damp cloth.

Enjoy!
