Surprise parties

I love to plan surprises for those I love--parties, trips, etc. I threw a surprise birthday party for my husband one year--in daylight--and it came off extremely well except that the person who was supposed to get my husband back home at a certain time had difficulty dragging him away from where they were. Another time I took him to a bed and breakfast in the mountains and then his parents showed up and surprised him. Tomorrow I undertake another surprise trip for his birthday! If all goes well, I'll tell you about it next week when I get back.

Does anyone else have any good setups they'd like to share? Or have you received a good surprise for a special occasion?

We threw a surprise party for Simon's 21st. My parents asked us to stay at their house and dogsit as they were going out. Everyone hid in the dining room, where the sofabed was. When we got there I asked Simon to put our stuff on the sofabed, and when he opened the door everyone was there. He acted surprised, but a while later he admitted that he suspected something as he saw a friend's car parked across the street.

The nicest surprise Simon got me was a pet mouse. He left her cage right where I could see when I got in, with a sign on it saying "My name is Lillith, will you be my mummy?"

Ok this time I got him all the way to the airport before he found out where he was going. He loves all things aeronautical, so we went to the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. We also went to a Jerry Seinfeld concert and heard some nice jazz (another favorite of his). Of course, it was very kewl for me too! I'll post a few pictures perhaps.

When I got back from being an exchange student, a couple of buddies of mine wanted to hit a bar in LA. I remember the place (known as the Kibitz Room at Canter's) being fun, but not being the best time. Regardless, not having seen my buddies in 7 months or so, I was definitely down to go. While I was getting ready, another friend (let's call him friend B) called me and invited me to hang out at a mutual friend's (c) house. I told him I had plans, to which he replied with obvious disappointment and said something to the effect of "damn man, there's a party you have to go to."

So we're on the way out to LA, and the kids I'm driving with want to stop by a friend's house. This house happened to be the same house I was invited to by friend B. As soon as I stepped in the house, I saw another friend who lives nowhere near LA and knew something was up. They surprised me with good brew, good herbal refreshment, and good friends. That was the first and only surprise party I've ever been invovled with.

My wife threw an extremely successful surprse party for me on my fortyeth (how the heck do you spell that? Fortieth? Fortieyeth? ... wow!) birthday.

'Twas so successful ... I can't remember a damned thing!

(One guest remarked "You didn't seem to be feeling any pain ... !)

... I'd buy tickets to be forty again!
