Star trek and its incarnations

What with Star trek: Enterprise being cancelled, what is your favourite out of the Star Trek series? Are you a Janeway fan or a Kirk man? Deanna troi verses Seven of Nine perhaps? Or do you even like the various incarnations that it has been through? I am an original series man myself, although there were some dodgy episodes (Spocks Brain!) , but I have a fondness for Enterprise during it's last series, as there are some good episodes in it. As for fav captain, that has to go to Kirk. Not an ounce of PC in him, unlike Picard, who seem to have the entire PC brigade serving on his ship. "To hell with negotations, phaser on kill", reads better than "Some Earl grey perhaps, when you stop blasting my ship"

i was raised on watching the stuff..cause my parents are sci-fi geeks

i go to sci-fi cons, and my house is filled with books..about over 4k of sci-fi/fantasy books...for my dads collection...when he hands them over to me i should start a library...

but anyways...i started to like enterprise...voyager was horrible...deep space nine was alright...i also like next generation...the original is good of course...my mom was obsessed with spock..i found a leanrod nemoy record of his folk songs in the closet...

Star Trek: The original Series

As a classical Trekkie, I would have to confess that the ideas, values, and human definitions are etched into my cerebral cortex and perhaps even in my DNA to infinity and beyond !
As in ANY comparison of the original with sequels or adaptations, nothing beats the original.

Thanks to my early exposure to Star Trek and its not so flashy F/X's, I was spared the temptation towards the Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI.
The intensity, scope of imagination, and the range of extremeities that the human psyche could handle could not be matched even with superior effects or fun factors thrown in by George Lucas. Only after watching Star Wars III did the series begin to make some sense, but still, as a coherent work of science fiction with a recurrent theme, what does it mean to be human, this question is not dealt with in Star Wars as in the case of Star Trek.

Star Trek would be another case of human imagination far surpassing flashy F/X, for what reminds me of my essence as an individual and as a human being will always be the minds of the crew of USS Enterprise, with Captian Kirk asking the nagging question at the most inconvenient moment, "What is our prime directive, Mr. Spok ?"

Thanks for responding, Mr. Spok. This thread would not be complete without the most memorable person who puts logic above all other mental faculties. How amusing to see him engage in those little emotions !

Ah, guilty! But Voyager would make even the most disciplined Volcan annoyed. Brrr!

I remember watching the original series back in the day but my personal fave has to be ST:TNG due to the complex story-arcs and wonderful archetypes (Worf, Data, Picard, etc.). My favorite TNG storyline has to be "Best of Both Worlds" with the Borg. Cool stuff! I liked the episodic nature of the show although my brother and I always got a kick out of how many times we'd hear the words "diagnostic", "anomaly", etc. used per episode, heh. Too bad about Enterprise getting the ax though, I liked Scott Bakula as Archer.

DS9 was my favourite - I thought the acting was superb. Jadzia was my favourite character - I wanted to be her!

I agree with Iron Chef about the great story arcs and characters in TNG, but unlike most people I even liked Voyager. I liked the way you knew the characters' personalities and how they were developed, although my husband always says those episodes are just to save money for a big FX-rich episode!

I HATED Enterprise though. There are some good episodes in the final series, but I just couldn't care less about the characters. Archer is lame. I always expected him to start stamping his feet and shouting "no fair, I want my mummy!" But Scott Bakula was great in Quantum Leap.

I thought DS9 got pretty good with the Dominion stuff. Odo was cool, probably my favorite (even if he was just another Data). I liked Sisko too (great char) but his damn kid annoyed me to no end... (then again, so did Will Wheaton, heh).

Geez, how long ago it was?.. i watched some being at US 11 years ago. But i think what stuck in my memory was from the movie, where Data got feelings and emotions - still can`t forget how he laughed about the joke that he had heard a long time ago "but i just got it!"

But i think i was more enchanted by Babylon 5

Quantum Leap is a good one also, btw

I only like The Next Generation. I wasn't too much into the others or even appeaded to me. I don't know why they just didn't catch my eye. I use to be a pretty big trekie but, not like "Oh episode 287" or something like that. I didn't really understand what they were talking about most of the time either I just liked the show and the characters. Data is my favorite! Wheeee!

Star Trek is by nature an optomistic show- a hope of a really cool future, and packaged into neat one hour morality plays- simplistic and corny, but always fun, usually interesting and definitely memorable. It was hard to vote, do I go with the original- that classic....timeless....wonderof-line delivery of Shatners. Or the more rugged enterprise. Do I vote on basis of most watchable female character- Seven of Nine, Troi, Tupal, Dax... and each in her own interesting form fitting costume? Or some other interesting character Spock or Data, Warf, Quark, Odo, or Neelix? or- bad guys: Kilingons, Romulans, Borg or do I go with my favorite Captain? I went with Next Generation- even though in reruns some of it is so unintentionally funny. (Troi as weepy cosmic cheerleader in NG 1st season)

I must admit one of the best scenes was when Tuvok throttled Neelix in Voyager. Pity it was just a holo-program. I think Neelix goes down as the all time annoying character. Star Treks Jar Jar Binks

Personally, and I may be in the minority here, I really liked "Voyager". Cannot explain why, but the characters and story line really appealed to me.

Picking my favorite series would be like asking me to choose between chocolate ice cream with fudge ripples, chocolate sprinkles, walnuts or almonds! So many things I appreciated about each one:
Captain Kirk's swagger, Spock's coolness, Picard's English air, or Archer's good looks (didn't like Janeway, however, just wasn't a gutsy-enough chick for me)
My favorite alien species out of all was poor repressed Worf! Although the blue Andorians had the cutest antennae!
Most unlikely was the black Vulcan...sorry, couldn't buy into that one...
Hated Wesley Crusher...
Favorite movie was "First Contact"...not only did it have time travel back to earth (ALWAYS loved those), but the scene with Mistress Borg was unforgettable!
Loved 7 of 9 and Chachote(?) out of Vogager, which had a super good ending to the series when they finally made it back to the Alpha Quadrant.
I didn't mind Neelix, but I always had a strong urge to change his hair and clothing...
