A pleasant good afternoon,Tokyo time.

I'm cricket and been living here for twenty one years now.

Hope to make friends with everyone here who loves my host country Japan and also to those who have a love-hate relationship with this country (like me?) :-)

Hope to enhanced my limited knowledge through the internet and chit chat with you guys,in and out of Japan.

Yoroshiku ^^

Greetings and welcome to JREF.

I think you just might be the member who has spent the most time in Japan :-) We look forward to your posts 🙂 Welcome!

How did you come to Japan and what has kept you here (if you don't mind the prying)?

Welcome

Welcome to the forum! :devilish:

When I first read your post, I thought to myself, "Since when I wrote something like this?" :?

Anyway, my world is very simple - it is black and white. In a word, love is love and hatred is hatred. Save me a lot of time.

It's always nice to see a new member especially one in Tokyo. Wow that is a long time...you got me beat by about 10 years. I agree with Mandylion..a few more details if you don't mind.

Also, Welcome to the place to be. 🙂

Thanks for the welcome!

Well, I used to work in an airline, fall in love with a good looking(hehehe)Japanese guy and before I know it, 21 years has passed!

My oldest daughter just got into college, one of the top level here in Tokyo(excused my bragging;I'm just so happy about it,I can't control myself), I'm into teaching field and like my life here, very much accepted by the Japanese that I think sometimes they forget that I'm not one, well adjusted now (what do you expect after 21 years, huh) and socially active too,be it the local community or the international groups. BUT...........

I still can't read nor write kanji (sigh) :(

Luck is a matter of opportunity meets preparation.

It sounds like you're a very lucky lady! It probably takes you a lot of effort and a positive attitude to have achieved that, I guess...

Welcome to the fora, cricket! I hope that you enjoy your stay, and if you have any questions about kanji, be sure to let us know in the "Learning Japanese" forum. :D

If you want, I can help you resize and set your avatar. PM me if you wish (click in "Mandylion" to the left and then "send a private message to Mandylion") so we don't clutter up your thread 🙂

Actually, it didn't really mean anything. I just think it is not easy to maintain a marriage for 21 years in today's society (since most of my friends are divorced).

As for the avatar, I didn't own it. Of course everybody can use it! I am sorry to get you confused. (^_~)

Konnichiwa Cricket-san!

Welcome and Hajimemashite. Yoroshiku ne! 🙂

Thanks a lot,Mandylion! That's mighty nice of you but then on second thought :? If I use personal pics as my "avatar"(I'm the worlds' worst typist),every friends would know that It's my post!! I could never post on sensitive topics......

You are sure right about that. Especially an international marriage in a closed society like Nippon. They still have that island country mentality(shimaguni).

But as you said, positive thinking counts a lot. There's this famous work by the great calligrapher,"Aida Mitsuo" that say's...

Shiawase wa itsumo jibun no kokoro ga kimeru.(*o*)

Now, we have to ask our experts here to translate it for everybody,huh..
