What do we think of the Sony Reader?
I think it has some pros and cons.
Pros
Cons
I think it has some pros and cons.
Pros
- You can read 7,500 pages before it needs recharging, since it only needs power for turning the page, and not for displaying
- It will be good for some disabled people - hitting a button is easier than turning a paper page if you have limited dexterity, and the text can be enlarged for anyone with partial sight
- You can operate it one-handed - you need two hands at least some of the time when reading a book!
- It has no backlight, so you're unlikely to get eyestrain, and there is very little flicker
- It would be a lot easier to take on holiday than a pile of paperbacks
Cons
- You can't read it in the bath!
- It has no backlight, so you can't read it in the dark
- It doesn't accept .txt files (you can use PDFs or some Sony-licence-to-print-money files)
- It's just not as tactile as a real book
