What do we think of the Sony Reader?

I think it has some pros and cons.

Pros

• You can read 7,500 pages before it needs recharging, since it only needs power for turning the page, and not for displaying
• It will be good for some disabled people - hitting a button is easier than turning a paper page if you have limited dexterity, and the text can be enlarged for anyone with partial sight
• You can operate it one-handed - you need two hands at least some of the time when reading a book!
• It has no backlight, so you're unlikely to get eyestrain, and there is very little flicker
• It would be a lot easier to take on holiday than a pile of paperbacks

Cons

• You can't read it in the bath!
• It has no backlight, so you can't read it in the dark
• It doesn't accept .txt files (you can use PDFs or some Sony-licence-to-print-money files)
• It's just not as tactile as a real book

Biggest con: the price!

BAH!! Sounds like all con to me! Even though I'm the biggest gadget freak you'll ever meet, I draw the line at junk like that. Call me an old fashioned fart, but I prefer to read my books in the traditional way. By the by, I read on animeondvd.com that some TOKYOPOP manga titles might wind up on this thing.
