Hello all,

As I am thinking about travelling to Shanghai next July to watch the solar eclips, I joined this forum, to find more info.
Hope a special topic will appear about the eclips, so that people interested from all over the world can find out info, and meet eachother here.

I'm from Holland, seen 3 eclipses: France 1999, Turkey 2006 and Novosibirsk, Siberia 2008.

Just wandering ??

How can you be sure the weather will be right for viewing when you travel a great distance? Do you pay attention to weather reports before you go , or do you just go and hope the weather will not affect viewing? I would hate to spend a lot of time and money planning a trip and then have clouds block out the view. By the way, welcome to JREF!

PS - I gave you an avatar which you can delete if you wish.

welcome to the forum,,stardustt :D

Shanghai?? Really?? woow... if only i could go there to see it with my own eyes.. and u go all the way to France, Turkey, and Siberia for this speciall occasion?? that's sooo cool!!!

Yes, France was not very far, as I am from Holland, and Turkey is a popular holiday destination, so that was also easy.
To Siberia was a long train trip, which was also interesting, so a very special holiday.
Now this one, this year in China (and India and Japan, by the way, see NASA eclips site) it's a long way, but also quite easy, as it is a large city. But I am not decided yet, as also it's expensive, and my money does not grow on trees, either, so I'm still thinking.
But it is a very special femomina, to witness, so if you every have the chance, it's well worth while.

I like solar elips too.
and i like Uncle Frank's avata, too. Maybe, i will steal his avatar someday. hehe

I've decided not to go, like I said in my post in the "China - travel" topic, as the weather looks rather bad - hot, sticky, poor chance of clear sky, so I'm not coming to this one.
@ Melon, I see you live in Indonesia, there is going to be an eclips in a few years time, that crosses Indonesia, maybe you can make it there. Look for details at the Nasa site for details - and everybody: please use good cover for your eyes: ECLIPS GLASSES are the only safe way of watching the sun.
Hope you all enjoy, who live in the path,
Stardust
