Simple grammar question for english phrase translation.

Would it be proper japanese to use the word "bachiatari", ("damn" from what the dictionary says) as an adjetive instead of a verb? in other words, can you say "bachiatari neko" for "damn cat" like we would in english as a general phrase? Or does that more translate into a abrupt command.

i'm just confused because in english the phrase can be inturrpreted in may ways, but everyone knows what is ment as a gesture or comment. like "damn cat" could be a cat that is damned as in "that damn(ed) cat", or a command to damn a cat as in "damn (that) cat (to hell)".

What comes to my mind is "kono baka neko me!" for "damn cat!".
"Kono" means "this" but in this particular phrase, it simply emphasizes the whole phrase and (possibly) speaker's anger or other strong feeling.
Same as the last "me" (pronunciation is not same as English "me" but similar to "meh"), it also used to emphasize.

"(Kono) baka neko me!" can be loosely translated as "stupid cat!" and you can replace "neko (=cat)" with almost any word.

There's another word I can think of to replace "baka (=stupid)", but it's much ruder than "baka" and I'm wondering if I should mention it here...
 
Does it start with あ? I think it's fine in Kansai, whereas ばか is considered pretty rude. I can think of one that starts with ぼ, too, but I don't get the impression it's as bad as the other two.

No, I think that ばかネコ or あほネコ are OK as far as it is used to refer to a third party. What I could think of is ○○ネコ and it begins with ク.

...And I have no clue about the word ぼ.
Oh, wait a minute, if it is Kansai dialect, it can be ボケ？
 
Yeah, I was thinking of ボケ. So, I'm pretty sure I have what word you meant now, but I never thought of that as meaning "stupid."
 
ばか, ぼけ and あほ are OK but くそ isn't!?

There used to be this mean old woman in our neighborhood when I was a child and my friend and I would call her くそばばあ. She would confiscate our baseball if it went over the fence and ended up in her yard.

That's exactly the same word as what I came up with.

忌々しい[Imaimashii,] not 罰当たりな[bachiatarina,] would be able to be used in relatively proper situation.
 
thanks for the help guys! i have another one if its not to much a bother... how would one say "i think i am falling in love" and "i think i am falling in love". i was told using anata was a bad/rude thing, so all i could guess at is "i think i am falling in love" would be:

"koi ni ochiru deshou"

im not familiar enough with particles and conjugations just yet... so this is only a guess from dictionary words. "deshou" came up as "i think" but im not sure if its ment as a verb? hence i put it at the end any...if anyone can clear that up for me that would be great! its tough learning from books without a native speaker to clear up what is ment in text! i also was wondering if deshou is a conjugated form of desu by any chance? or am i way off here...

the only thing i could come up with for "i think i am falling in love with you" would be:

"anata wa koi ni ochiru deshou"



i really appreaciate the help here, im trying hard so if i make mistakes, please if you could not only correct them, but also point out where i went wrong?

ps. incase you are wondering i took japanese 101 in college years ago but never got to teh second level as i transfered, but all that was was learning katakana and hiragana with VERY basic actual speaking outside the usual hellos, goodbyes, basic use of wa ga ka and ni, kore sore and are. im so glad i found this forum though! i have a few different books to read from but its hard to know other then from the examples in the book if "unique" sentance formations are correct with nothing to directlu compare them too!
 
I'm about to go to bed, but really quickly:

"fall in love" -- 恋（を）する (koi (o) suru)
"I think I'm falling in love" -- tricky. There are a few ways you could say this, and I can't think of a good way to put it simply. （彼女に）恋しちゃってるらしい ((kanojo ni) koi shichatteru rashii) would be one way, but it's more like "I think I've fallen in love (with her)." 彼女に恋しちゃうかも is like "I think I might fall for her." Maybe other people will have better options (and btw, mine are pretty informal).
 
I'll give another option.

（どうやら）僕は（君のことを）好きになったみたいだ。（douyara）boku ha（kimi no koto wo）suki ni natta mitai da. How about this?
 
What about ほれる for falling in love.
彼女にほれてしまった！ = (Oh no!) I've fallen in love with her!

I don't know how to make it sound like a guy is saying " (Oh no!) I think I'm falling in love with her!" Maybe 俺は・・・彼女にほれちまったか！？

According to my Kansai Japanese book, guys change the "e" by "o" in ほれてる to ほれとる

彼女にほれとる。

ほれとる sounds like a kansai dialect or old men's saying in these days.
 
i dont know any kanji yet other then like 1-5 man and ricefield haha... still tryin to figure it out, maybe ill suck it up and just find a nice hibachi place and ask the hostess haha
 
So, why did you want to know how to say "I think I am falling in love"? Are you trying to hit on a hostess at some hibachi place?
 
haha not exactly... but a girl that speaks fluent japanese of course!

A ha! I knew it. OK, in that case, what you'd wanna tell her would be something in the line of.....

好きになってしまいそうです / 好きになっちゃいそう
Suki ni natteshimaisou desu / Suki ni nacchaisou

The first one being more polite.

what are the roots of natteshimaisou and nacchaisou? i cant find em in the dictionary... all i recognize is -mashoo is a volitional conjugation, is that the same as -mashou? I cant even guess at the second one...only ones i have listed are masu, masu ka, masen, mashita, mashita ka, masen deshita, mashoo, tai desu, taku arimasen, te imas, te imashita, te kudasai and nai de kidasai.

sorry the materials i have to work with are rough i appreciate all the help and suggestions though!
 

しまう is the root of this, they are only adding そう at the end to say "it looks like..."

To answer your question completely, when a verb ends in てしまう it means that the verb is completely done or that it "regretably" happened.

This next form of てしまう means "completely finished doing something"
Ex. ご飯もう食べてしまった。 ご飯もう食べてしまいまし た。 the second one is way formal.
It means: I am done eating my meal.
informal would be ご飯もうたべちゃった。

The next one means "to regretably done something"
Ex. 家で宿題を忘れてしまった！ or the more formal 家で宿題を忘れてしまいました。
informal: 家で宿題を忘れちゃった！

So...
好きになってしまいそうです / 好きになっちゃいそう

means somewhere along the lines of...

I think I have (completely) fallen in love with you!
or I think I have (regretfully) fallen in love with you!

...てしまう/っちゃう in the suggestions I gave is used to mean that something is beyond one's control. I'll give a couple of examples.

この曲を聞くと自然に腰が動いてしまう/動いちゃう。
When I listen to this tune, my hips start to move on their own.

ダイエット中なのに、どうしても甘いものを食べてしま います。
Ａｌｔｈｏｕｇｈ I'm on a diet, I end up eating sweets (no matter how hard I try not to).

So, when you tell someone "(あなたを)好きになってしまいそう", you are saying "I think I am falling in love (with you) and I can't help it."

なって[natte]; te-form of the verb なる[naru,] "to become/to come to do"
しまい[shimai]; the adverbial form/pre-masu form of the auxiliary verb しまう[shimau]
そう[sou]; the suffix or the stem of the na-adjective "そうだ[souda]/そうです[soudesu]," which means "to seem/look like" when used after pre-masu form of verbs/stem of adjectives

So, なってしまいそう[natteshimaisou] is a form of the verb なる[naru.]


なっちゃいそう[nacchaisou] is the contraction of なってしまいそう[natteshimaisou].
 
thank you all! thats some very helpful information! one book i have simply has "this is how you say" phrases, it doesnt even mention how or why something is conjugated, and my other referance just lists out the conjugation suffixes and some general rules, with only the single example of the verb tabemasu! then kinda just mentions, oh yea, heres a list of -te form suffixes, without a single example! my only other reference is my text book from back in college, but it was notoriously difficult to learn from! after then 1st chapter it doesnt even use english anymore and assumes that everything it teaches per page is absolutly understood and memorized! i recently picked up an "idiots guide" book and i have to say i figured out a great deal of what I already had memorized, actually ment! i hate knowing anything without knowing exactly WHY it is what it is!

It makes perfect sense. The only thing is... it sounds too much like an observation. It sounds almost like, "What I think is happening here is I am
harboring feelings of affection toward you." You know what I mean? It's as if you are talking about someone else. It lacks the sense of urgency that is often associated with FALLING IN LUUUUV. That's just my opinion, though. Anyway, like I said, it is grammatically sound.
