Silly weight question

I was just wondering... statistics say that average weight for 157,5 cm tall Japanese girl is 53 kg. Is that true? I got impression majority of young girls are under 50 kg, maybe even under 45 kg as well.
Maybe it's just stereotypes I know, cause I always imagined Asian girls to be very light.

Sorry for the stupid question!

Well as a casual observer in my limited time in Japan, most people looked pretty average as far as weight was concerned. Basically their weight was in proportion to their height. So there were very petite girls/women there, but they were petite in body frame/build as well. There are some heavier people there as well, but they were in the minority from what I saw.

Well I do think that Japanese girls weight less than 53 for that height, they are too skinny sometimes... (some of the weight is because of the breast )

Isn't there some Japanese actuary table we could consult?

Seems like an interesting page. Can someone translate it to me please?

Hmm - If I was a japanese girl, I should be around 76 Kilos for a healthy weight, and around 68 for a "beautiful body type" Hahaha...

53 kg seems very strange to me. I'm slightly taller (159 cm) and if I weighed that much, I'd have to buy plus-size clothing. If you assume that the average 157.5 cm girl can shop in regular stores (that would be average, right?), I don't think she could be much heavier than maybe 48 kg unless she's extremely muscular.

What Nagashima -san didn't mention, is that the healthy weight for 157 is 54, and any other lower one is considered unhealthy.

My girl is 157cm and 53kg most of the time (different times of the day will give higher and lower weights, thus either make an average, or always weigh the same time of day - I choose mornings).

157cm/53kg is certainly the average, I've got the inside gossip on that one

Well I also think 53 kg is too much for 157, especially considering the fact that Japanese girls are petite in build. For petite gals OK weight for that height would be 41 - 46, anything above is not considered petite anymore.
I honestly doubt J-girls are 53 kg cause they were all very very skinny back then when I visited Japan for a short period. I would give them no more than 45 kg. I know cuz I'm Latina and our girls are similar height but with much more curves and weight.

I'm happy to post pictures if you want - 41-46 is very very skinny, and bordering on unhealthy.

I have to second Ewok on this one.

Very, very generally speaking, the approximately ideal weight for Japanese girls is calculated at:

Height in centimeters - 110 = Weight in kilograms
157 - 110 = 47 kg

So, Nagashima-san's reply is in the right range. I feel Westerners are inclined to tolerate plumper girls. Many young Japanese girls, however, think they're overweight if they're anything over that standard weight.

When I came to japan, I was quite fat:157cm/57kg

Now I'm 157/43, and people envy me, and find me very attractive.
However, I have heartburn and bulimia, I throw up after every meal, and sometimes between, and overuse laxatives. Several days ago I stretched my knee when I overexecised. But nobody knows it.Everyone says: "Oh, T, you are so slim and beautiful!"

If anyone wants to be 43 kg, I can give them the exact recipe. But she'll end up like me.

157cm/57cm isn't fat, I doubt its even "overweight" by meaningless BMI stats.

157/43 isn't attractive, its just thin. No boobs, no bum, you could be a useful aid for training doctors and nurses for studying the human skeletal system

Eat some more, you'd look far more lovely.

Consider this, great article - The stunning size 12 model branded 'too fat' for TV competition

taehyun, you know you're doing it the wrong way, right? I'm also 43 kg, and 159 cm tall. I don't purge, use laxatives, or do any special exercise. All I do is eat healthy foods. I'm a vegetarian and cook most of my meals at home using fresh ingredients. I drink a lot of water and while I'll have junk food once in a while for a treat, I generally avoid soda, alcohol, and processed snacks. It might sound strict if you love McDonalds food (I don't like it at all!), but really it's just common sense healthy eating.

If you can't reach that weight by simply eating healthy foods in moderation, without drugs or purging, then maybe it's too thin for your frame size.

Or maybe its just too thin? Do you two have any muscle on those bones? :|

Oh please people... I have some Japanese friends who are exactly around 157 cm and 43 kg and they are healthy. Sure, they are small framed. For large framed people that would be deadly, but for petite ones it is perfectly ok to weigh 40 - 45 kg at 155 - 160 cm height range.

This is actually a concern of mine: being larger than the majority of Japanese girls (I had an eating disorder and still have a few body image problems anyway). I'm pretty tall anyway - about 167-8 cm, and I weigh about 53 kg. I would like to lose 5-10 pounds...but I guess, other than being caucasion and tall, I shouldn't stand out too much in the way of weight, then?

So I have a question. If I am 5'2" (I don't know how many centimeters that is, sorry) and I have a fairly small frame, what should my weight be?

yoko: you know, the best weight you should be at is whatever you're happiest with. seriously, if someone just tells you what weight you should be at and you go through life stressing just trying to fit that figure, it seems rather pointless doesn't it?

Ah well...useless ramble over:

5'2"...maybe 48-53kgs?
