Should I duplicate a thread that already exists in the J-Music section?

I love the thread 'What song are you currently listening to?' in the J-Music area, but i'm wondering if it's valid for me to post there, as I very rarely listen to Japanese music? In fact, if it's strictly for J-Pop etc my posts there have already been off-topic...

I do listen to Ego-wrappin', Supercar, Cornelius etc sometimes, but the few Japanese acts I like no-one here seems to have ever heard of (or be listening to, anyway).

May I post a similar thread in Chit Chat for any kind of music? Or should I continue posting off-topic in the one that already exists? My thoughts are:

1) I don't want to annoy people in the original thread, who all seem to like, and want to discuss, similar stuff.

2) I'd like to be inspired/chat a little about music I know, and other stuff that's new to me, with the many members here who listen mainly to Western stuff.

3) I don't want to take any thunder away from the original thread.

Any thoughts?

(Not an urgent matter - cheers!)

My thoughts....

it seems no one worries about if the music named is Japanese or not so far. Unless you talk about Glenn Miller or the Beach Boys, I would not know a Japanese band from any other band in the world, sorry to say. Maybe Dutch or someone can offer their thoughts?

Many thanks for your advice, once again, Frankie kun!

(Off-topic: also, it's most pleasant to see your old avatar back - that chap is like an uncle to me - albeit one that I hope doesn't send me pictures of naked obese folks through the Chat, lol j/ks 😊 )

You're absolutely right, i'm sure I could continue posting in that section for a long while, and no-one would say anything. But, it doesn't really serve any purpose for me or the other good folk who post on that thread. I think the duplicate could entertain me a great deal in my more spurious moments, and, more importantly, would be a good way for that part of our community who listen to Western music to share a lot together.

What say ye other good entitled folk of these fora??

(again, no rush, just an idea!)

What terms, if any, did you use to search ? There was one that was started years ago and was actually semi-active until a short time back. If it's still deep in retirement looking for company, although I do hope not officially dead....😌 I'm one of those rather unusual souls that listens to Japanese for my passion and has to be reminded every now and again that I really do like music too....:(

My opinion here would be that if there is no old thread of that nature--'what are you listening to now?'--it would be fair to create one in the 'Chit Chat & Misc.' forum. I am aware that there had been a thread on 'Country Music' there back some time ago, and I think I vaguely recall some other thread on Music.

I will check for those today--if some beats me to it, that's fine too--and FIRSTLY look them over and see if they are worth bumping up. IF NOT, then I'd suggest starting a new one more to the tune of 'what are you listening to now.' (now=recently I'd suppose)

I don't think it'd be good just to bump up any ole thread related to music, so I'll check the old ones out. If anyone else does that and decides to bump it up, please feel free--and please use discrection. MM

So many thanks for the help, guys!! Uncle Frank found and bumped the thread for me :)

what are you listening to?

Elizabeth - I didn't think I could use the 'search' function because I didn't know what the thread's title might be, and all the posts would (presumably) be unique and unpredictable. I did go through the last few years of pages in the Chat section to see if there was anything there, but didn't see anything (though there were a lot of threads to look through!).

By the way, your dedication to your Japanese studies is very impressive! I hope to hear sometime what inspires you, as I'm looking for inspiration myself. Also, may I say, please don't forget about music entirely, and hope to see you on that thread! 🙂
