Shop recommendation to buy SLR digicam

man, that is two worlds apart.... heheh. i guess it's getting OT. lets forget it...

Some stuff you need to know about getting electronics in Japan and bring them back to your home country.

If you purchase a local model, it's very likely that your warranty is covered only in Japan. If you need a service using your warranty, you'll need to get in touch with the manufacturer's service center in Japan and most likely ship your product to Japan. I doubt the shipping is covered.

If you purchase an export model found at duty free shops, it's very likely that any warranty services are provided by local service centers, if there are any. When I visited Akihabara last year, I noticed that these export models sold at duty free stores to be outdated and pricey. You can get a newer models for less at Ritz Camera or even Best Buy.

I had a good laugh comparing Canon Speedlite 580EX flashes on Ebay and Yahoo Japan.

They sell in stores for about 40,000 yen, but were going for as much as 45,000 on Yahoo, and as little as $250 on Ebay...

Sorry for OT!

Mike,

I'd like to ask your opinion as an experienced SLR user, please.

What do you think of this lens?

I really couldn't say. I'd recommend asking on a forum for Canon users. These days pretty much all I use are pre-1970 screwmount lenses.

After a little price search, the cheapest place to buy in usa appears to be amazon.com of all places. Lol. At least for the Fujifilm camera, which is what I ended up choosing... SLR style but the built-in lens. 28-300 mm, which is perfect for my use. It gets quite good reviews...

You could try Bic camera (near ginza). They have good prices, and a central location in Tokyo. It's just near the station yurakucho on the JR yamanote line.
